Watching keenly as I'm 34+5 with number 3

Monique007 · 30/10/2019 17:12

Had 1st natural delivery, second c-section, 3-rd natural. Last one was induced but the Labour was quick and so painful, but I had PGP, and although having an epidural my pelvic bones still hurt me a lot. The contractions came much quicker and they were painful. But the fact that the Labour was a bit more than 3 hours I think it was ok.

Although heard ladies saying they had it easier. I suppose everyone’s pain level it’s different.

Ard35 · 30/10/2019 17:17

I had my third child 7 weeks ago and also heard this - even the midwife said "third births can be unpredictable", which really scared me! But for me, my third birth was the easiest by far and I have had a very straightforward recovery too.

AGnu · 30/10/2019 17:19

My 3rd was the longest but I think that was more to do with freaking myself out worrying about friends' birth stories than anything. I'd also had not-great experiences with midwives in my previous labours so was feeling anxious about that. It was v stop-start for a long time & I do remember tell DH I was sure it was worse than the others but looking back, I think I'd convinced myself the baby was stuck because that happened to a friend's baby all worked out fine thanks to the well-trained midwives & I do tend to get rather panicky during transition phase anyway.

My advice would be if you've done it before, you can do it again. Remember that & don't let anyone freak you out!

AlwaysOnAbloodyDiet · 30/10/2019 17:25

My 3rd was very easy. I didn't even use the gas & air, had no pain relief at all.
Mild labour pains started around 9pm, became stronger around 11pm, I informed the midwife at 1am. Baby was born at 3AM.
Intense pain & pressure for 20/30 minutes before he was born.

Good luck Flowers

Thankyou ladies you have made me feel calmer already❤

Third out of 4 was my bedt!

bessie84 · 30/10/2019 18:30

3rd was my best too. wtf is up with some people though, I mean - why give shit horror stories, drives me nuts. im 27 weeks with number 5 (last one) haven't heard any stories of 5th, (although having a section) and if I did, id tell em to fuck off.

Im quite cranky as you may tell :-)

each person and each baby is an individual / personal experience.

good luck OP

alwaysgoodenough · 30/10/2019 18:40

There was a similar thread a while ago. Will try and find it. That OP's third was fine.
My third labour and birth smooth and fast. Less than two hours.
No stitches.
Fourth one was even easier, (if you're planning another).
Ignore this old wives tale.

Midlandsmum23 · 30/10/2019 19:03

When I was pregnant with baby number 3, my midwife told me that third labours don't always follow the pattern of your 1st and 2nd labours and can be unpredictable. My 3rd baby was back to back and took a while to push out but we got there eventually and he was born naturally.

alwaysgoodenough · 30/10/2019 19:05

Just to add, my third labour was almost identical to my second, just a few minutes shorter.

DramaAlpaca · 30/10/2019 19:06

My third (and last) was by far my easiest & quickest.

Chaosonthehorizon · 30/10/2019 19:12

Sorry to jump on, birth aside, what did you do with your other children during that time? Long way to go but starting to think about what would be best for them (obviously not being in hospital😉) so keen to hear other people’s experiences. DH will be with me and it will be an elcs.

Mintypea5 · 30/10/2019 19:17

@Chaosonthehorizon you'll need to find some kind of childcare for them. Friends and family or maybe a childminder should does over nights?

We'll be in 24 hrs post birth because of strep B so our other 2 will go to either my mum or mil whoever can have them on the day.

My midwife told me she thinks I'll have a pretty quick labour with my 3rd! I went 3-10 in 20 mins last time and pushed for 6mins. She keeps joking she's not sure I'd even make it to the hospital. Although because of yen StrepB I'll be on from start of contractions or waters going (if not induced) to make sure we get the antibiotics in time

lyingwanker · 30/10/2019 19:17

I've got 4 children and my 3rd Labour was definitely my easiest. I only had gas and air and that wasn't all the way through. I think it's because I went in there knowing what to expect (as much as you can!) and I had a really positive attitude that each pain was just bringing me closer.

With all but my last birth my parents looked after the older kids but didn't really have anyone for the 4th birth so husband just stayed home and I went on my own. Far from ideal but for me, I'd rather have known all my kids were happy and ok otherwise I'd have been stressed out about them.

ohdearymemumof3 · 30/10/2019 21:23

Aww thats really great reading all your comments thankyou🥰 my first was 8hrs and second was 3hrs both no pain relief and no stitches with second, so im trying to stay positive as they were straight forward labour and births. I dont know why people and "friends" try to scare and worry you by saying things like 3rds the worst? What's the point🙄.. my partner stayed at home with my eldest last time and this time hes going to stay at home with both children while i go to the hospital with my mum like last time, my eldest has autism so id rather him be with her as me and him know her best and its best for her, if not id be worrying so much x

My third out of four was my only non-assisted delivery. Labour was shorter than the first and third but longer than the second one. I did have a post partum haemorrhage though. The only birth that happened in.

Snaleandthewhail · 30/10/2019 21:27

Third was fast. Very fast in terms of it being about an hour from 3cm to having a baby. It was also correspondingly hurtier (it took a week for that much movement for my first). But it was straightforward and recovery was fine.

And I’m never doing it again!

IVEgotthePUMPKINS · 30/10/2019 21:28

Third out of five was my easiest by a mile! Could do that again and again!

Hangingtrousers · 30/10/2019 21:30

True..but because he was enormous compared to his 2 older siblings.

Strangerthingshere · 30/10/2019 21:33

The labour and birth (once I got started) were the easiest ones yet. The pushing stage was so fast, i couldnt believe it when she said the head was out already. I had also heard the rumours about baby no.3 but in my experience you have nothing to worry about

Taraswell · 30/10/2019 21:36

My 3rd was the easiest. Don't listen to the scaremongers and negative nellys

Good luck x

trevthecat · 30/10/2019 21:37

I had baby three 2 years ago. Now baby 1 ended with forceps, baby 2 was long, highly medicated and I was poorly after, baby 3, oh baby 3! Waters went at 3:30pm in the school playground!!! Contractions started 4am, hospital at 7:50 am holding my boy in a pool at 8:30am. Was the best labour, more painful I think. Went from nothing to contractions every 3 mins for 4 hours but was honestly the most amazing labour.

ferrier · 30/10/2019 21:39

Nope. 5th was the worst. 4th was the best. There are no rules about it.

JustAnotherMammi · 30/10/2019 21:40

Nope, 3rd labour was very quick and easy. Don't worry!
