Flu vaccine

Has anyone had the flu vaccine whilst pregnant?
I'm 38+5 and keep putting it off. I think I should get it as I just read it protects the baby for the first few months against flu/pneumonia.

Is it the type of injection that makes you feel abit crap for a few days? I know not all vaccines do. I feel horrendous as it is!

I'm 31 and had it last week. No issues at all other than a sore arm for a few days!
I'm not sure it's for baby's protection (but whooping cough is) but more that you probably want to avoid having a new baby and then getting hit with the flu

It's the third year running I've had it and never had I'll side affects

MyFartWillGoOn · 30/10/2019 14:51

Should say 31 weeks...

Unlike the whopping cough which protects baby, I was of the understanding that the flu jab actually protects mother, rather than baby. If course I may be wrong and it sounds possible from what you're saying.

PrayingandHoping · 30/10/2019 14:57

I've had the flu vaccine for 20 years (apart from 1 year and I got flu twice) as I have immune system issues. The flu vaccine does not make you ill, the worst is does is give you an achey arm.

If you feel crappy afterwards it will have been because you were already brewing something

It’s because if u do get the flu whilst pregnant it can be dangerous for baby because of raised temperature.

leghairdontcare · 30/10/2019 15:03

Yes, it's recommended for pregnant women and available free on the NHS. I had it last week, no side affects whatsoever.

annienone · 30/10/2019 15:04

Thanks! I keep getting texts from my doctors surgery to say book an appointment. I think I may just do that! I've never had flu but it'll be Sod's law I get it this year!

Surely you will have popped by then. I know lots of doctors surgeries are not offering to pregnant women yet, just over 65s. I think there was/is a problem with supply

purplefig · 30/10/2019 15:16

If you can't get it at your GP surgery (mine had a month wait!) you can go to Boots or what not and get it there for free, just remember to taking your maternity exemption certificate along with you.

Just called and they're doing a flu clinic today, got an appointment at 4pm! Better get a move on

Had mine a few weeks ago (was 22 weeks at the time) and I've been absolutely fine. Better safe than sorry. Halloween Smile

It protects baby too :) had mine today and not as much as a sore arm! No regrets:) x
