Failed sweep

I'm 40+1 today and just had a failed sweep, cervix is as unfavourable as they come, posterior long, hard and closed. First baby so I know they tend to come after due date but I just feel so disheartened and fed up. Induction is booked and seems likely now. Has anyone got any positive stories of things happening naturally after a failed sweep??

I had a failed sweep on a Wednesday (think I was 40+2). Midwife was supposed to come on Sunday to try again and didn't show. My contractions started on Sunday night and I gave birth on the following Wednesday.

MW had tried contacting me on the Tuesday to book my induction but I was a bit preoccupied Grin

Thank you- there's hope for my cervix yet then!

I had a failed sweep at 40+1... midwife couldn't even reach my cervix it was so high and posterior. I went into labour the following morning and had DD the evening of 40+2. Don't be disheartened, everything can change quite quickly!

Forgot to say, that was also my first baby!

@Cegbee I also had a failed sweep today at 40+3. Trying again on Friday but good to know from the other posters that things can change quickly!

I had two failed sweeps before going into labour spontaneously at 41+5, the day before I was going to be induced. Easier said than done, but try to relax!

I had 2 failed sweeps after my due date. Bloody thorough ones as well! Dd stayed put until 40+11. Turned up 2 days before my induction date.

Thanks everyone. Feel so stupid to be crying over my bloody cervix, need to remain positive! Fed up of being so fat and uncomfortable though. Hopefully things will happen!

I had a failed sweep at 40+6 with first baby & came home and cried.
Waters broke the following morning and baby arrived 56 hours later.

It's the hardest thing to do, but I've heard you will only release the right hormones to go into labour if you relax. So do whatever helps you relax and put sweeps, inductions and everything else out of your mind.

But, on the upside, I had to be induced with my first and it was totally fine. Honestly don't know why I ever worried about it.

Good luck!

Sweeps often dont work. Just think - 2 weeks maximum now. That really isn't very long before your life changes completey! I'm over my due date and enjoying reading, watching tv and resting up Grin

Sweeps very very rarely work. I honestly don’t know why they are routinely done.

I had two failed sweeps after 40 weeks with DS2. I went to the park with toddler DS1 and bounced on one of those little animal things and next day went into spontaneous labour. I also bounced at the hospital and it sped my dilating up a lot. I can't remember feeling particularly relaxed because I was in so much pain and I had a very boisterous almost 2-year old! Good luck x
