Both my husband and I are finding it very hard to sleep at night. Me because I am getting up to pee every 10 minutes and can't get back to sleep but I don't why he can't (apart from me disturbing him!)? Is this our bodies' way of preparing us for the arrival of our baby and sleepness nights? We haven't been able to sleep for a week or so and our first baby is due on Saturday. Any thoughts?!

I found that I slept during the day and couldn't sleep at night for love nor money which was frustrating. Even now when Lydia is sleeping, I am too hyped to sleep! I think eventually I will crash and learn to sleep on demand! xxx

CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!Babie are so exhausting but sooooooo worth it! My advise is to nap when baby does and you will also learn to switch off a bit at night as the you adjust to motherhood......first time around I didnt sleep at night for first 2 weeks ..mainly due to nervousness and watching every breath the baby took to make sure he was ok!!! Of course he was but I was exhausted..eventually I passed out one night and have been sleeping at night since........it's all very strange to begin with but you will adjust!!
DB: I don't know about sleeping through th night by 4 weeks.....my DS was about 16 weeks and on solids before he slept the whole night through..but I dont think thats bad going!!! Here's hoping we have good sleepers for all our sakes!

It is so not preparation!!! When I had DS I hadn't had a decent night's sleep (in fact I hadn't slept for more than 2 hours at a time) for over 4 months. What's that all about? That was the worst possible start to motherhood I could think of!

Thanks everyone, I am 36 weeks and have just had my first week of real sleeplessness. What a blinking nightmare! But I feel so much better just to have read about all your experiences and know that I am not alone!

Half the reason I'm doing hypnobirthing (just bought the book with the attached CD, not doing the whole course) is that I hope it will help me sleep. So far, so good. I fell asleep yesterday for the duration of the relaxation recording (about 20 minutes) then tried to listen through it again last night, and fell asleep about 5 minutes in (hard to say exactly when, though). Also slept better last night than I had in a while, even though I still woke up once for a snack. I hope the relaxation tape thing continues to work, because I've got nearly 3 months to go, and the past month and a half has been very sleep-deprived.
