Working with sickness

I am 6+4 weeks pregnant and have had morning (all day) sickness from 5 weeks pregnant. I work in a busy pre school with 26 children where I'm constantly on my feet or having to sit on the floor! I love my job and have done it for many years but since becoming pregnant I am really struggling to be there Sad I am severely nauseated and lightheaded all day and throw up a lot in the mornings.
I have had to call in sick today as every time I tried to get out of bed I was sick and felt like I was about to faint. I feel so guilty and like I am letting everyone down, if this goes on for weeks I don't know what I will do!
Sorry, I just needed to let it out! Anyone in the same situation at the moment?

I completely understand how you are feeling, I was admitted into hospital with dehydration due to severe sickness and currently on my 8th week of sick leave due to it. It’s hard because you don’t want to let work down but have to look after yourself and baby also getting signed off means your employer can arrange cover whilst you get yourself into a better routine. I had to find the right combination of anti sickness meds

Yep! I cried to my gp who immediately signed me off and gave me anti sickness medication and I've never been so grateful it's making a huge difference. 100% don't suffer and don't think that you have to be sick a certain number of times to be taken seriously I was "only" actually being sick 1/2 times a day but nausea was constant and struggled to eat.

Go and speak to your gp x

Agree with the above, get signed off for a while if you need. Your employer will understand. I always say while pregnancy isn’t an illness, the sickness that accompanies it is. If you weren’t pregnant but vomiting loads & fainting, you wouldn’t dream of going to work! But we seem to think we have to struggle on and just deal with it while pregnant! Confused

It most likely won’t be for the majority of your pregnancy. Just these early weeks. So get signed off & rest up! Your employer can then get some cover in more easily.

I had to tell a couple of people at work early because I was so sick (primary teacher). Its so awful!

Me and my ta had it worked out that when I gave her 'the look' she would quickly take over so that I could run off and be sick!

If you need to get signed off though make sure you do. Dont do the typical female thing of trying to soldier on.
