Due date

My daughter is unsure of the date of her last menstrual period. In April she had a very light three day bleed/spotting earlier than her expected period. She assumed it was an unusual period. At the beginning of May she found out she was expecting. At her booking in appointment she said that her last period was the date of the unusually short period but March was her last normal period. The midwife put the April date as her LMP. At her 12 week scan she mentioned that she had been feeling movements for a week. The sonographer said that she didn't think it was the baby. Her due date was adjusted 1 week earlier - meaning she was just over 13 weeks at her scan. She has mentioned three times to her midwife that she thinks she's a month further on than her due date because of the light period in April. She's now 28 weeks - at her midwife appointment today the height of the bump was 31cm. This would put her due date to end of December instead of mid Jan - which it would have been if she took the April bleed as an implantation bleed. She has always felt a month further along than her notes suggest. Her uterus came out above her pelvis before she was 10 wks. Her baby has already dropped - the head is 'well down' - today's observation. A colleague remarked last week that her bump was much lower.

Her first baby was born at 38 wks. Two years later she was diagnosed with EDS and at the diagnosis the consultant said that her subsequent pregnancies would more than likely be earlier than the first. This is because women with this condition are more likely to have premature rupture of membranes.

The problem is that she has a manual demanding job - lots of lifting and driving. She looks about 36 wks going by her last pregnancy (she also weighs less this pregnancy).

She's having treatment from an Osteo for pelvic pain. She is really struggling. She is due to finish work at the end of November - going on her original due date (which we don't think is right).

Going by the last 'normal' period (March) she would be 31 weeks. Knowing that she could potentially give birth earlier than 38 weeks I would ideally like her to finish work as soon as possible - but there's no time to give a month's notice now because it wouldn't change her November leaving date.

Ideally she wants her due date adjusted - but every time she's mentioned it she's not been taken seriously.

She feels like she has a bowling ball between her legs whilst she's limping around making deliveries.

Is it possible to get the due date changed?

Worth getting her to talk to her union rep for advice on this RE: work situation and her rights. I'm sure the midwife would answer honestly if your daughter explains all of this. Best of luck to your daughter and grandchild.

Unfortunately no they wont adjust her due date just because you both think shes further along...

At her 12wk scan baby measured in at 13 weeks so she was 13 weeks along by that point. At her 20wk scan they would of measured baby again and presuming if her due date didn't adjust then baby was measuring in at 20 weeks..

Bump measurements dont mean alot has she been sent for a growth scan? You can measure 2cm/3cm either way with no concern from.your midwife. at my 24 week app I measured in at 28 weeks turns out I'm just having a bigger baby than last time. I'm alot bigger and in my midwifes words look clinically further along.

As for work can she not see her gp and be signed off sick untill her maternity finishes if shes really struggling x

I'd assume that measurements taken at the scan were correct but maybe try for a private scan see what they say?

I am a sonographer. The measurements of the baby during every scan your daughter has had are much more indicative of how many weeks she is. Her LMP is really a moot point. She very likely didn't conceive during her period. She conceived when she ovulated. LMP is just a rough estimate at best. You can't just ask for your dates to be adjusted just because you think she's further along.

The measurements at her scan dictate her due date. They won't change her dates based on her hunch.
I assume measurements at her 20 week scan were normal for a 20 week foetus.

Every pregnancy is different, the size, shape or feel of her bump means nothing in terms of gestation or due date.
