Extreme tiredness

Hi everyone

I'm just after a little advice really...has anyone else suffered from extreme tiredness whilst pregnant?
I'm in my first trimester and can barely keep my eyes open every day - I'm at work at the moment and could easily put my head in the arms in my desk and have a snooze!
I've never been this tired before so just wondered if it's normal and if anyone else suffered with it?
If anyone else has experienced this, what did you do to wake yourself up?

Thanks

I've been like this since the first trimester also. At first when I could sleep I was sleeping 8 hours a night getting up in a morning and without an hour I couldn't keep my eyes open... this has only gotten worse only difference now at 27 weeks is I also cant sleep on a night now so I'm constantly drained.. not sure how far along you are but have a word with your midwife as you could have low iron or something similar x

I had this too. Am now at 14 weeks and while still tired, it's definitely easing up. Do you have any possibility of working from home, even one day a week? I found by Thursday or Friday I was completely out of it and being able to take a nap in the middle of the day helped me make it through.

MerryDeath · 28/10/2019 13:57

yes and then i got better for a couple of months (weeks 🤔) and now I'm napping again any time i get a moment away from the toddler 😄 i know it's annoying but listen to your body and rest more! particularly if this is your first and your time is still your own. also check your iron but i find that's more physical tiredness than actually just want a snooze. anyway it's a perfectly valid feeling and nothing to be ashamed of. you are building a human!

I'm only about 5 weeks at the moment so very early days and is my first. Unfortunately I'm not able to work from home - I do have a doctors appointment this afternoon to discuss my iron levels. At the moment, I am getting so tired that I don't really feel safe driving which scares me a bit x

@Dixie87 be carefull I got like this I was driving and literally felt like I was in my own world not remembering actually getting from A - B are you taking vitamins etc you will have a blood test done at your booking app which they check your iron levels then again at 28 weeks.. I only got diagnosed later on in pregnancy with iron deficiency with my 1st as your levels go up and down throughout pregnancy and what's normal level for early pregnancy is compelty different to what's normal level for later on xx

It's reassuring to know I'm not the only one. Thank you lovely xx

Hello,
On my third pregnancy and every pregnancy i've been like that. It's much much worse than the 'extreme' tiredness that is normal in pregnancy - i had to stop work for a while because of it, and as @boymummy3 says, i would be nervous to drive. At times I am too tired too even type/talk, that's with sleepng 10 hours a night.
At the moment I sleep 12 - 15 hours out of 24 and am feeling a little better though my house isnt quite fuctioning (my older 2 are both in school), and i'm working again, so maybe it got slightly better (i'm at 21 weeks now).

Give yourself time and space and don't overdo it, but do try exercise at least a bit - it can help. Are you taking iron with vit c and b12?

Dixie87 · 29/10/2019 12:10

That's the thing I have at the moment - I'm at work and sometimes just myself just sitting there because I can't function to do much more - sometimes when I'm driving, I think it is more luck that I get there safely! 😕
I'm currently taking my folic acid and asked the pharmacy about iron tablets but they won't give me any without talking to the doctor so I have an appointment this afternoon.

I had this with both of my (very healthy) pregnancies. Not a moments sickness between them but I was tired to my very bones.

It eased by the end of the first trimester then returned right at the end! It's nothing to worry about.

Moongirl10 · 29/10/2019 17:49

Yes! By 3pm I can’t do anything at work, I’m so tired by that point I can’t focus on my computer screen. I have an hour and 15 min commute home and then I have to lie down when I get home for about 45 mins as my whole body is exhausted! I’m 10 weeks today.

AnxiousandExcited · 29/10/2019 21:43

Some exhaustion is common in every pregnancy, especially the beginning, but some people have it worse I think, I've been surveying people informally for years and there seems to be some people who are more extremely tired/weak...
You can buy iron over the counter as a multi vitamin. You can also buy Spatone (water with high iron content) and cook in iron pots, which increases the iron content of the food. Don't eat/drink milk products for 2 hours before or after taking iron and take the iron with vitamin c.
Even though I am not very low in iron, the above has helped me a bit if I stick to it!

pegspurplecat · 29/10/2019 22:02

I had extreme tiredness in both my pregnancies. For me it wasn't iron levels. I've never felt like it any other time. Both babies were healthy, but I felt it right to my very core. Sometimes it's just one of those really sucky things! Like a PP though I didn't have any morning sickness.
