36 weeks and not gained much weight

Hi there was wondering if any other ladies in same boat or have been in previous pregnancies.
I'm 36 weeks and have gained 10 pounds so am a bit concerned about birth weight now.
I know the placenta and amniotic fluid take up a big percentage of weight as does increased blood volume and actual weight of uterus.
So where does that leave my baby?
I've got a scan on Tuesday so I'll get some sort of knowledge but guess I'm looking for reassurance that all will be ok?

Surely if there were any concerns MW would have picked this up sooner? Were you overweight before you got pg?

VapeVamp12 · 27/10/2019 10:52

I think it can depend a lot on your weight before you got pregnant. I am overweight and have put on 12 pounds and I’m 35 weeks

If you’re bigger to start with you should generally put on leas whereas if you were slim when you started you’d likely put on quite a bit more.

Good luck for ur scan

VapeVamp12 · 27/10/2019 10:53

As I said above I’ve put on 12 pounds and at a 32 week growth scan he was estimated as 5 pound 1 already!

I asked a midwife this because I'v had very little weight gain, baby is on the smaller side but not by much. She said they were only concerned with weight if you were underweight at the beginning or overweight or had rapid weight gain.

My midwife has been useless tbh. My consultant blasted her for not bringing it up sooner.
I'm measuring under on fundal and have been since they started measuring me.
But she was always blasé saying as long as you don't go below the last line it's fine and oh your petite.
No I'm not over weight, starting weight was 8.3 stone and am 9 stone now.
My first pregnancy my son was 8 pound but I was huge. I measured 2 weeks ahead and was 90th centile so this pregnancy has been polar opposite.

Dont worry about it I only put on 10lb with my first and he was 7lb 11oz born..aslong as baby is growing nicely then your weight gain isnt a massive thing. If your worried of course speak with your midwife x

That's nice to hear boymummy.
Yes have scan on Tuesday and I'm nervous. But thought I'd feel better hearing about other women like yourself who have gone onto have good sized babies despite lack of weight gain.
It is a comfort

Yes, my community midwife hasn't been great, this was the consultants midwife who told me that. The community midwife has only measured me twice throughout the whole pregnancy (39 weeks now) and I was 4 weeks behind under the 10th centile at 38 weeks. I have had growth scans but the last was at 36 weeks so that measurement did have me feeling uneasy. Baby is moving as normal though so I'm not too worried for now.

I was 12 stone when I got pregnant. I was exactly the same weight as I started when I went to be induced to the pound. DS was 9lb 2oz and I lost 1.5 stone in the following 2 weeks.

anitagreen · 27/10/2019 19:47

I don't think it matters I lost 2 stone with my DD, nearly 3 with my DS and now this one I'm 30 weeks and so far lost just over 2 stone midwife isn't concerned x
