Getting induced tonight!

I’m 39 weeks today and have an induction booked for 8pm tonight. I’m suddenly feeling really nervous, this is my second child but I went into labour naturally with my first and prefer being taken my surprise with it rather than having a time that things will get going.

I’m dreading it being a really long process. I was really hoping I’d have gone into labour by now as I’d had two sweeps with a really favourable cervix but at least the day is finally here! Just need to keep myself busy all day.

What was being induced like for you?

How exciting!
I was induced in July at 38 weeks.
Wed-Sat, I had one failed round of pessary's with a 24hr gap to start the 2nd round.

2 pessary's in on the 2nd round and all went very quickly. Started the first tablet 5pm Fri, 9am Sat my waters were broken as I was 3cm dilated. 10am I was 10cm dilated but DS was back to back but a doctor managed to turn him, thank goodness!

If your cervix is looking good I suspect it could be quicker for you! My cervix was not playing ball the first round!

Good Luck!!

@PixieDustt I’ve heard a lot of stories of the pessaries not working, during my last sweep I was told they could probably break my waters without (here’s hoping!). I’m sort of hoping they try me with it just in case it makes me go into labour without the drip. That’s the part I’m really dreading!

@Nov19 hopefully it will go that way for you! But just remember not to get stressed. For me personally being induced wasn't a problem and I was lucky to miss out the drip as I dilated fast on my own!
The MW told me, that they will try and give you what you ask for. She said if I wanted an epidural before the drip (if it came to that) I could. She was so lovely she said some MW's can be pushy but make sure you ask and get what you want and make yourself heard. She was so reassuring. She was lovely.

I'm another example of it going quick! Induced with my second at 39 weeks. Pessary and sweep given at 2pm - she was out by half 7. Nearly had her in a lift whilst they were transferring me from induction ward to delivery suite! My first delivery was quick too though, although I wasn't induced that time.
Good luck OP!

I’m loving these stories about how quick it went for you! DC1 was back to back so labour was longer, I’m hoping the fact this baby isn’t back to back and that it’s my second means it should be too long a labour. I live in hope!

I went to be induced at 37 weeks, already 3cm dilated when I got there so skipped the pessary and went straight down to delivery had waters broke at 7pm Ended up with back to back contractions so had to have epidural. Got to 9cm by 9am next day however baby then got stuck 😩. Finally put me on the drip at 2pm and he arrived at 10 past 3! Xx

I was induced with my older two at 38 weeks plus a couple of days. Both took two days to arrive. Take books, mags etc to keep you occupied. We even had travel scrabble! X

I was induced Wednesday pm. First tablet at 10pm. By next morning there was limited change so a second was inserted. By later Thursday afternoon I was around 2cm with irregular contractions. Had a bit of a wait for a space on labour ward and eventually went down around 10pm, had my waters broken around 11 am (I had polyhydramnios so it was like a flood!).

Laboured on gas and air for 1 1/2 hours but progress was limited so was put on syntocin. Asked for an exam to see how far along I was so I could decide whether or not I wanted an epidural. The little bugger had turned breach at some point between 11pm and 12:30 am so suddenly it was all systems go and I had to go to theatre for an emcs.

Was not how I saw things playing out but I was just unlucky. The induction element was fine - just a lot of waiting around. Everyone is different though and the woman in the bed next to me was ready to go down to labour ward a few hours after the first pessary.
