Patterdale terriers and babies.....

Anyone any experience?? My very lively 2 year old patterdale gets on great with my 14&11yr old daughters but I’m getting mixed reviews about them with babies. I know the little monkey will chew the toys no doubt and I’m not naive enough to leave my dog alone with a baby but It makes me upset when people say you may have to rehome him. It’s not something I could do lightly and definitely not before I’ve had my baby and sussed for myself how he will be. He’s like my little shadow! Just lively and excitable! Thank you xx

My mum had an excitable 1yo German shepherd when I had DD and we had 2 lazy 4yo cats... the cats hated the baby and the dog adored her. He was so gentle around her and if she stirred would nudge me toward her, as she grew dd would climb all over him, batter him with toys, take food out of his mouth (that's she'd dropped usually!) and he never batted an eyelid! She's older now and recently dressed him up to play Beauty and the beast with her, he just goes with it.
The cats got used to her eventually, after 3 years they got really close to her and now they're inseparable.

My grandmother was, and is still, horrified we let animals near dd though! I've had to have a lot of replies on hand to bat off the comments and now dd is a very confident kid, she understands animals body language and how to approach them.

I think dogs can surprise their owners with how well they adjust to a baby, but really only time will tell and you know your dog best (he's adorable btw!)

@codenameduchess thank you! He’s no bother really! I’ve been awake since 6. It’s now 8.10 (really 9.10) and still not stirred or yelped to come out the crate! He’s so lazy! I however need coffee so he will be annoyed at me for letting him out no doubt!! Xx

My two dogs get on very well but if I turned back the clock I wouldn't have the second. Maybe it's just cause he is a complete nutter and v high energy but two are so much harder than I ever imagined

@Amicompletelyinsane I can imagine!! One is definitely enough!! X
