Awful nausea at 5 weeks?

Hi all,

I found out I'm pregnant 12 days ago and have felt a little tired, sore boobs but nothing too bad - until the past couple of days when nausea and tiredness has hit me awfully. Today has been really hard, I have had a 3 hour nap this afternoon which was a welcome break from the nauseous feeling! The thought of any food other than plain bread or potato actually revolts me. I've not physically been sick but I almost feel I'd rather that than have this constant feeling.
I believe I'm 5+2 weeks today so still very early, and I'm wondering if anyone else felt like this at this stage? Has anyone got any tips on what may help? Thanks!

I'm 5+4 weeks today. 2nd pregnancy.

I barely had any morning sickness last time, just a flu-like feeling and tiredness in the first trimester.

This time round I'm really nauseous, it's been getting steadily worse for the last week or so. Haven't actually been sick so far but come close a few times. Like you said, I think I'd feel better if I was actually sick rather than constantly feeling just on the edge.

The nausea has really reduced my appetite, I've not wanted any food before midday for the last few days. Thought I was going to have to pull over on the way to work this morning as it was so bad.

I had every intention of keeping the pregnancy news quiet until I'd had my first scan, but I have looked so poorly in work that my boss has already figured it out. I'm pretty sure it won't be long before more people guess too. Strong smells seem to make it a lot worse, even nice smells like bacon are making me heave.

As unpleasant as it is, I'm feeling bizarrely excited as it has taken us ages to conceive and the nausea is like a daily confirmation that we finally managed it.

Not much advice really as we appear to be in the same boat. At the moment I'm just not eating until lunchtime, and then slowly nibbling my way through dry crackers. Fortunately I seem to get an ok patch at some point late afternoon so I can get a proper meal. Pretty sure that this isn't an ideal pregnancy diet but it's all I can manage at the minute. I used to have a really sweet tooth but now I can only stomach plain savoury foods.

I was practically house bound weeks 6-11. Its debilitating.
What I could eat changed from day to day. I found I could manage an orange/tangerine a day. Sometimes a few grapes. Nibbling on pre-made fruit pots from the supermarket have got me through my pregnancy. No way I could've washed fruit & chopped it.
Try small portions, bland food is a safe bet and sip on any liquids you can manage.

Mines got better at week 16 & I started putting on the weight I had lost.
I hope it lifts for you soon, it's not pleasant at all.

It hit me that early with my third child. That's probably the main reason he was my last one Grin

I found eating plain stuff little & often helped. It didn't go away completely until I was 20 weeks unfortunately, but that happened in all my pregnancies.

If it gets really bad, see your GP.
