Pregnancy vitamins - should I stop the folic acid now?

I’m 13 weeks pregnant today and from what I can gather, I can now stop taking the folic acid tablets. I’m quite glad about this as I think they might have been adding to my nausea!

What do you ladies take from week 13 onwards - is it best just to buy a pregnancy multivitamin? Are there any key vitamins I definitely shouldn’t be missing out on, such as vitamin D, iron?

If the multivitamin does contain folic acid is it ok to keep taking that during the 2nd and 3rd trimester?

Thanks!

@tacosplease from what I understand, folic acid is important throughout your whole pregnancy but most important during the first trimester.

If folic acid alone is making you feel nauseous then try a multivitamin that contains it and see how you go. I take seven seas pregnancy which contains everything you need (including folic acid, vitamin D and iron). It also contains ginger to help combat morning sickness.

I used to take pregnacare but found that made me feel sick. Seven Seas are much easier to stomach for me x

Thanks Coffee - I will give Seven Seas a go!

Folic acid has other benefits too. There is research linking it to reduced risk of preclampsia and PPH too. I took Pregnacare Max, which are huge tablets, throughout this pregnancy even though I still have nausea (am 34 weeks). I drink them down with a bit of fibogel after a small meal.

@tacosplease I got mine from Superdrug, they are £5.29 for 28 tablets and are on offer just now - 3 for 2 so much cheaper than Pregnacare, etc. x
