My one year old has got hand foot and mouth. I'm 6 weeks pregnant - am I at risk?

Most adults are immunish as we've probably all had it several times as kids.

My dd has had it twice or possibly three times and I got sick the first time (real mild, think I just felt unwell and threw up once) and DH had it the second time and was quite sick (like a stomach bug).

If you practice good hygiene you'll probably be ok

Really? Me and several of my mum friends have caught it from our children - I was nearly hospitalised I was so unwell. Doctor told me the majority of people my age had never been exposed to it so had no immunity (our group is aged 38-45).

I caught it off my one year old at the beginning of this year. It’s extremely contagious and you can definitely have it more than once.

I got it about 4 years ago when my eldest caught it. I wasn't pregnant then though so a bit worried now. I also read you can catch it more than once as there are different strains of the virus

If you're in the UK call NHS 24 and ask if you're worried but I would think you'll be fine. My son had it and I never got and I'm his main carer.

I caught it when I was 10 weeks pregnant. It was horrible and I was ill but only briefly. The spots hung around for a while, but thankfully I only had a few. No harm to the baby.

@Boobiliboobiliboo that's what the doctor told me. So if you get it, it'll tend to be milder. Or you'll be less likely to catch it but not immune because there's loads of varieties

makingmiracles · 20/10/2019 17:02

IM fairily sure I never had it as a child and have 4dc who have never had it and the youngest caught it and I held her constantly for 3 days as she was so poorly....I didn’t get it, nor did dp or the other three children.

It was hell for lo though and she didn’t sleep for three days straight, wouldn’t eat or drink, ended up syringing fluid into her with calpol syringe. Wouldn’t wish it on anyone.

I've just googled it and not sure if my doctor was talking bollocks. Op, I'd ring 111 or ask your doctor if you were worried
