Sickness - 13 weeks

Just looking for some advice from people later on in their pregnancies if possible! I spent from weeks 6-11 feeling awful, with pretty much constant nausea that was quite debilitating. Only threw up a couple of times though.

I started feeling a lot better at the end of week 11, so generally not much nausea during the day, but it really ramped up about the time I go to bed, and I'm increasingly unable to eat anything after about 4pm as it all comes up again at 10pm. Despite feeling better in the day I'm actually being sick more now at 13 weeks - twice last night when all I wanted to do was go to bed!

Has anyone had an experience like this who could tell me when it starts to simmer down, please? I know everyone's different but I'd just like to be able to eat dinner with DH again - not to mention it'd be nice to have an appetite back and stop being sick.

Thanks for your help!

For me 18-20 weeks.. sadly for me that’s so long as I take 2x anti-sickness for HG. The nausea didn’t fully leave at all last pregnancy but it was at a low level from about 20 weeks & I ate relatively normally. I’m 18 weeks this pregnancy & things are improving again. My eating is still very cautious, I’ve got safe meals I stick too.. but it’s getting there. For most people, it’s 12-14 weeks-ish but for some it drags on to 20 weeks and for some, all pregnancy but that is much rarer. You’ll probs find some foods are a no go throughout pregnancy.. for me, chicken, mint & anything remotely spicy.

Hope you feel much better soon!

Oh lord, I could have written your post - I’m now 16+5 and have been very similar (although was diagnosed with HG for the constant nausea as lost 15% of my already low body weight 😭🤢)

I’m best from when I wake up to about 4pm too. (Used to be 1pm but gradually got later as weeks went on). I think it’s something to do with stomach acid (a HUGE cause of pregnancy nausea) so if you’re not on a STRONG anti acid already then get yourself on one ASAP- even if you don’t ‘feel heartburny’ it does really effect the nausea 🤢.

Also (and I know it’s boring) but stick to SUPER safe foods, banana, toast, bland cereal, potato, plain pasta dishes...etc. You’d be surprised how many women try to ‘push through’ pregnancy sickness and eat like normal.

At 8 weeks I was basically having toddler sized bowls of porridge 3-4 times a day (kept it down though 👍🏻) and I worked up from there adding banana and other bland bits until now (I actually managed half a portion of pub chips yesterday and didn’t vom 👍🏻)
But I’m actively thinking ‘will this make me sick?’ Every time I eat something and if I’m dubious I’ll give it a miss. It is boring but not worth the vomiting I’m afraid.

Everyone told me it would get better at 12 weeks, maybe some women do wake up at 12 weeks and feel fine - I didn’t. It ‘improves’ but that’s as much about you having learnt to manage it, as it is about hormones settling down...etc.

I think 12 weeks is a myth, it fades quite a bit between 12-14weeks but it might come back randomly up until 20 weeks. I didn’t have HG, just regular pregnancy nausea, however the symptoms definitely lingered around till the second trimester. Each time I thought I was fully better and threw out my rice crackers and puddings, I’d get another bout and had to go back to shops! But it definitely went away completely after 20 weeks, and I was lucky enough not to get any heartburn during 3rd trimester.

You could be describing me here!

I started feeling normal again at 16 weeks. Hang in there - you will start to feel like yourself again!

22 weeks i felt better. Hope you feel better soon, it is awful x

I was vomitus maximus for 24+ weeks and then developed GD. The good news was that I didn't gain a pound throughout pregnancy. The bad news was I was very poorly for the majority of it, so hated the entire time. Even the smell of water set me off vomming.

I was bad with sickness up till about week 23, I would get so down and cry because I constantly felt sick, I still have the odd bout of sickness but nothing compared to what it was I'm 29+4 now and just uncomfortable, I hope you start to feel better soon you will get there xx

Thank you everyone for your comments; sounds like if I'm lucky it might calm down a bit in the next few weeks...possibly! Sorry to hear that lots of you are still suffering.

I guess one positive is that I'm lighter now than I was at the beginning of the pregnancy, though that's a small consolation!

Thanks for all your help - will keep powering through for now with my fingers crossed.

Another 'you're not alone' post!
I'm 15 weeks today and still struggling with nausea and frequent gagging. I've only been sick a few times but was prescribed promethezine from 7 weeks as it was so bad I was losing weight, couldn't walk or sleep. On the tablets I was able to eat relatively normally and gained a few lbs. Then the last dr I saw told me to take as few tablets as I could manage as they aren't proven to be safe so I managed to cut down and as it's half term (I'm a teacher) I've stopped taking them and now I'm feeling rubbish again. Not as bad but keep having sudden retching attacks while struggling to eat a biscuit to stop the nausea and can't eat a full meal. I'm feeling really fed up as the midwife said most people feel better by15 weeks 😩
