When should I see a doctor?

Hi,

I’ve just taken a test tonight (3 tests) and the clear blue says 3+. I did an online calculator and it says I am 6 weeks.

I suddenly feel a bit clueless. We are going on holiday next week, but should I be trying to get an appointment before then or am I fine to wait a while. We were TTC but have only just started and due to work/illness/general hectic life, we hadn’t really been trying very hard from my point of view so I didn’t pay any attention to being late (i’m an idiot).

Can anyone give me a whistle stop tour of what I should be doing. I only just started vitamins this week and the internet makes me think I’ve left this too late now.

Sorry to be so silly, just feel a bit stupid and unprepared

Folic acid and vitamins

Get some crackers for the side of the bed incase of morning sickness (it helped me to eat one before I moved in the morning)

Ring gp and see how you refere to the midwife team they'll probably give you a phone number. Probably won't need to see a doctor.

Hey! Congratulations! I didn’t Even call my gp. I just called the birth centre and they arranged my booking appointment. This is not my first baby though so if you’re unsure of the protocol in your area then book in with your gp and they will tell you what to do. You will be surprised at how little you see your midwife at the start as well which kind of feels odd!! Xx

Congratulations!

Where I live you don’t see the doctor until your second trimester. The first appointment is a booking in appointment with the midwife at around eight weeks. Then bloods are taken followed by a scan at 12 weeks (some trusts do the blood test after the scan).

If you give your surgery a call in the morning, they should be able to advise you of the protocol.

Oh! Thanks! I just assumed it was a GP thing. It’s my first and since it’s early days I didn’t want to ask anyone in RL 😂

I will call tomorrow and see what I’m supposed to do.

I have preconception vitamins. Should I take these, or get a pregnancy vitamin instead?

You really don’t need to panic.
Vitamins- you’re taking them now so carry on with that. I didn’t get around to taking mine very early when expecting.

Regarding an appointment, it can vary from area to area. Where I am, we have to call the gp and the receptionist will book an appointment directly with the midwife for around 8/10 weeks (I think, it’s only been a couple of years).
Your best bet it’s to call the gp and ask what they prefer you to do.

Once you’ve had your booking in appointment you’ll then get a letter for a scan appointment.

Congratulations!
