When did baby come?

It seems routine these are offered now at 40 week appointment, even if that's a few days before 40 weeks exactly! I'm really not sure about them and have heard mixed reviews about whether they even work. I know some people who've had them (most people seem to accept them!), had terrible pain, then waters have broken and no contractions so been artificial induced anyway.

If you refused these interventions, what was your story? Thanks!

39+1 first baby. I swear to this day he could sense I'd had enough of being pregnant.
I'd been loosing my mucus plug for a few weeks I think then I woke up on the day he was born with spontaneous contractions, 6hrs later I was almost fully dilated but waters hadn't broken so had them broken for me in the hospital. He then couldn't get in the right position so got stuck in the birth canal resulting in ventouse and episiotomy delivery. I did get offered a sweep at 41 weeks even though they were supposed to not let me go past my due date due to baby's size but I obviously never got to it.
