Big baby

Hello
I had a 28 weeks check up with the MW a few days ago and she measured my bump at 29cm. MW said i should reduce the amount of sugar and carbs i eat. I'm not overweight and have put on about 7kg since being pregnant.
Could me eating sugar and carbs have affected the baby? Is the baby going to be big?
I'm just worried i've made the baby "fat" by eating sugar and carbs.

Any help/advice welcome.
Thanks

Anything within 2cm is considered "normal" so I'm surprised she even mentioned it unless your other measurements have been under? Plus there is a margin of error allowed as the way the measure could impact the result. Was there any glucose in your urine which would make her comment make sense?
More importantly fundal height isn't a reflection of how big your baby is but how big your bump is, which is also dependent on how much amniotic fluid you have in there. She can't tell by measuring you if she's measuring baby or fluid. If she was really concerned she'd have referred you for a scan as that's the only way to know.
Yes people with gestational diabetes have bigger babies, but unless she's seeing glucose in your urine, that isn't diagnosed by FH, especially when it's within the margin of error. GD is diagnosed by blood tests

No. Did she suggest you go for a glucose tolerance test? My midwife did when I measured big. And boom she was right I had gestational diabetes (now have type 1).

As said, any difference up to 2cm (some say 3cm) is within the normal range.

If you feel like you've been overdoing it on the sugar then you could try to switch to healthier foods just as a preventative measure, but unless they have done the glucose test there's nothing to suggest you've got gestational diabetes or anything to worry about there.

Thanks for your comments. She said urine and blood tests were fine. Maybe she was just being over careful.

My midwife challenged my dates, claimed baby was worryingly big and suggested scan which I refused. Baby was fine 8lbs - it’s not an exact science with the tape measure .

As a previous poster has said that is bump size not baby size? A scan can give an estimate of baby size but even that isn't completely accurate...

Ah ok. That makes me feel better. Thank you everybody.
