Anterior Placenta - When did you first feel movement?

For those of you ladies with anterior placentas, when did you first feel flutterings of movement? Not proper kicks, but just bubbles, flutters, swishes, anything that made you stop and think "is that baby?"

I am 19 weeks with my first baby and still have not felt anything even remotely like flutters. I do have an anterior placenta, but starting to feel concerned as my 20 week scan approaches and given a previous loss. I just need to feel something to reassure me or to know that this is normal! Thanks in advance X.

DS2 20ish weeks for flutters and proper movement was 22+

Baby3 about 16/17weeks for flutters (bit only because I knew what I was looking for)

It can really depend where your placenta is. DS2 mine was dead centre covering my whole front whereas this baby its high on. The right so I've found it much easier to feel
Movements.

With a first you might not feel those first movements until gone 20+ weeks anyway so try not to worry

Nelly325 · 16/10/2019 13:27

26 weeks. I went for weekly heartbeat listen - ins from the midwife though from 20 weeks as lack of movement was causing me lots of stress

owlofathena · 16/10/2019 13:37

About 19/20 weeks with this baby (2nd child, anterior placenta). I didn't start feeling proper movements until about 25 weeks. My placenta is high to the right so can usually feel movement on my left side.
I didn't have an anterior placenta with my first child but I still didn't feel any fluttering movements until about 18/19 weeks.

sadtoday21 · 16/10/2019 14:37

Thanks @Mintypea5 @Nelly325 @owlofathena! It's really helpful to hear some other stories about when movement started - I am just so tired of all these baby sites saying 19 weeks, you should feel kicking now! Its making me even more anxious.

It sounds like even 20 weeks is still early to feel flutters with first baby and anterior placenta?

I never had flutters/bubbles. The first movement I felt was one definite kick when I was in the bath, at 19 weeks!

Neptunesgiraffe · 16/10/2019 14:55

22 weeks

JonnyPocketRocket · 16/10/2019 14:57

I don't recall exactly, but I know I hadn't felt anything by the time of my 20 week scan. I was surprised to see him wriggling about so much on the screen as I hadn't felt a whisper of movement. I think it took a few more weeks - maybe around week 23 or 24? (First baby if that makes a difference.)

Baypony · 16/10/2019 15:07

I’m currently 26 weeks. I went for my 20w scan at nearly 21 weeks and it was odd seeing the baby move but not being able to feel it. I only found out where the placenta was at this scan. I started to feel what felt like something flicking me, or like twitching muscles from inside at about 22w. I haven’t had any of those fluttering feelings like everyone else describes. Even now I can only feel kicks in the bottom left of my belly, where I know there is no placenta, and the occasional kick on my cervix.

mrspotatohed · 16/10/2019 16:32

I thought I felt things from about 18 weeks but wasn't sure. The first obvious movement was dot on 19 weeks and it was popping very low down. Since 21 weeks I've felt movement every day. I'm 23 weeks tomorrow and have felt her with my hand and been able to catch her moving on video, I'm not talking alien fists out the belly of course bit a little thump Grin shes getting more obvious every day. Although I can only feel her when shes low down or if its round the sides. I am starting to feel movement a little higher occasionally but for the most part its still around my hips and knicker line area. I assume my placenta is sitting higher which is why I can feel low but not high

Ribeebie · 16/10/2019 16:38

About 23-34 weeks I think. It's often normal not to feel anything at 19 weeks. Try not to worry. Congratulations

Ribeebie · 16/10/2019 16:39

23-24 weeks!!

BeanBag7 · 16/10/2019 17:06

21 weeks or so, but it was a while before I was sure it was the baby and not just wind.

I'm pregnant again and have a posterior placenta - I have been feeling movement since about 16 weeks. It's very unfair for those who have anterior placenta, which isn't at all unusual, that the baby books and sites don't mention that you will feel kicks later.

Yummymummy2020 · 16/10/2019 17:23

Don’t fret-I’m in the same boat 26 weeks now and feck all still, had a scan today and she was literally booting me on it for all to see, couldn’t feel a thing! A few times at night this week I THOUGHT I felt some flutters but nothing to write home about! It’s a bit annoying because I’m looking forward to the kicks, but my consultant said today likely in two weeks Or so I’ll get them more strongly! Baby is growing normally so it’s not that they are too small, just the placenta in the way! Of course if you are ever worried go in and they will scan you to be sure and not mind at all doing it! But just so you know, you are not the only one!!

Amanduh · 16/10/2019 17:29

24 weeks, but I never felt massive movements at all due to the positioning of the placenta. Everything was so so cushioned.

RealMermaid · 16/10/2019 18:42

17 weeks I first felt then, and by 19 weeks I was confident that what I felt was definitely the baby and not my imagination (first time lol!) But only tend to feel them down low/around the edges/internally, nothing much at the front of my bump where you'd expect.

sadtoday21 · 17/10/2019 12:25

Thanks everyone, all really helpful info!

Appreciate it @Yummymummy2020, I was starting to feel really alone with everyone on MNs saying 16-17 weeks for movement!

Just wondering if anyone else has any experience with late movement and anterior placenta? I'm 19+3 today and still haven't felt anything that I am sure is movement or even flutters. Just worried and looking for other ladies who may be in the same boat! Thanks in advance X.

@sadtoday21 I really wouldn't worry. They said to me to that I'm very unlikely to feel anything until 26 weeks.

I felt a tiny pinging, like a muscle spasm when I was half way through my 19th week, but that does not mean that's the 'norm' at all. After that I felt nothing for days and then only sporadically for ages. Little pings would come and go.

I only started feeling actual movements for the last couple of weeks I would say. I'm 26 weeks now. It's perfectly normal not to feel anything at 19 weeks still. My 20 week scan was when I was just 19 weeks and I had never felt anything by that point either. You won't have regular movements with patterns until 28 weeks. But I think within the next 4-6 weeks, you'll start to feel something! Give yourself that time before worrying too much. I appreciate how easy it is to say that and how hard it is to do that! But if you're still really worried, ring the maternity unit and they'll reassure you too. I rang when I was around 21 weeks, as I hadn't felt any pings for a couple of days and they said, it really is too early to feel it all the time- even at 21 weeks.

sadtoday21 · 20/10/2019 16:07

Thanks @mummytobe2020 for your lovely reply. You really helped calm me down, thank you!! I have my 20 week scan tomorrow (I will be 19+4), so this is definitely adding to the anxiety. I was hoping to feel movement before the scan so this one wouldn't be so nerve-wracking as the others, but unfortunately the anxiety is just as bad as at 12 and 16 weeks.

Anyway, I really appreciated hearing about your experience and I'm so glad that everything is ok with your baby and you have started to feel more regular movements now. Wishing you the best for a happy and healthy rest of your pregnancy! Xxx

I had anterior and with first baby felt movements at 16 weeks, but this was only in hindsight when around 18 they became more definite. I now have posterior and have felt movements since 11.5 weeks. But its not the be all and end all. Early movements bring with them their own set of anxieties. Last weekend baby was going mental at 17 weeks and now (18 weeks) ... Nothing. I'm just telling myself that it's early days and baby has changed position. I don't know how much anterior makes a difference, I do know lots with posterior placenta who have still not felt anything at 19/20 weeks

mummytobe2020 · 20/10/2019 16:54

@sadtoday21 no problem. Pregnancy is a constant anxiety fest I swear! Being really nervous before the 20 week scan / or any scan is also really normal. However, try to look at the statistics. It's unlikely something will go wrong. It can, but it's more likely that all will go well. Try googling some statistics. That might help. All the best to you and your little one ❤️

Sparkle0109 · 20/10/2019 19:01

It was about 21 weeks when I first felt like a flutter/ popping sensation which I wasnt 100% sure at the time.

The past couple of weeks have been more obvious but ended up going see midwives on monday as I hadnt felt anything all weekend and all was good.. guessing he was just hiding. I then had reduced movement from Thursday this week until today which I tried to stay calm about.
I feel everything quite low so guessing my placenta is mid - high.

I am sure it wont be long until you start feeling something 😊

Anterior placenta

Hi ladies im currently 19+4 days pregnant with a little boy 💙
Pregnancy seems to be going well accept an anterior placenta which I found out about on our private gender scan.

Im currenrly struggling with anxiety as I cant feel him move at all yet im sure I had a bubble feeling once or twice a week ago and one movement where it felt like a fish swimming.

Since then I've been concentrating so much to feel somthing and I cant.

When did you feel baby move?
What did it feel like?

Thank you 😁 x

Carabu1 · 20/09/2020 16:11

A few days ago and I’m nearly 26 weeks! Like you it had been really stressing me out, so much so I went to triage who reassured me they were all ok. I found that stopping reading threads in here helped a bit, because like you all these early movers were making me more worried! But I would say if you’re that worried in a few weeks go to triage and get checked. It will put your mind at rest!

peachypetite · 20/09/2020 16:21

23 weeks. Midwife said it could be up to 24 so don’t worry.
