Breech at 34 weeks

My baby is breech at 34 weeks.. I know there is still time for it to shift (although I'm slightly concerned I may take after my mum who had all of her kids between 35-36 weeks) but I'm petrified of having a caesarean (I think it's the lack of control / recovery time) Confused.

I'm trying swimming, various exercises from the spinning babies website and even shining a torch to the bottom of my bump (I know, but it can't do any harm right Blush).

Has anyone had experience of their baby turning after this point.. or a successful vaginal delivery even if baby isn't head down?

My midwife hasn't been overly helpful and just says it's early to be worrying but as above, it's not that early if I take after my mum!!

Honestly I wouldn't worry yet and just because your mum had to have c-section doesn't mean you will. You have plenty of time for baby to turn into the correct position and more often than not they do on their own you have at least 6 weeks yet technically for baby to turn xx

@ELM8,

I have heard that during labour the contractions can turn the baby naturally. If this is your 1st Baby your odds are 1 in 8.
Here are some more tips.

Wish you all the best!

I’m 37w and baby has been transverse lie since about 28w. Some movement down into pelvis, but just bobs back up. I’m not worried, nor is midwife. Had planned on a low-risk water birth in an independent MW led unit which is 14mins from hospital (blue lights). But I’m also comfortable with a caesarean if that’s what’s best for baby.
Contractions may jostle bub into position, but just be ready to change your plans, as you will be advised at 36w MW appt. We can hope or want whatever we want, but the little people do what they want and when they fancy! 😊

My baby was breached and at 37wks I had the ecv procedure to get baby head down. Hopefully baby will stay that way!

From my own research you could try an alternative therapy like acupuncture. Spend plenty time on your hands and knees and any movements/positions to open your pelvis.

Hi :) mine was breech right up until a scan at 35 weeks (for low lying placenta) showed baby had gone head down. I have a strong suspicion it was only the night before as well as I had a very uncomfortable night of wriggly baby! I didn't do anything special since if I'd still had low lying placenta it would have been a moot point anyway! But baby was confirmed breech at 34 week appt and had turned at 35 weeks. My mw said they wouldn't worry until 36 weeks about breech (and then sent for a scan to check and offered an ECV).

You could always take a look at spinning babies website for some ideas to try now though :)

I haven’t experience of this but my best friend had, from what I remembered she was very late when baby moved position and all was grand! She too was doing all kinds to try make the baby move naturally, she is convinced her fit ball solved it- but honestly I think most babies just turn themselves anyway as time goes on. I totally get the worry though, chances are baby will turn themselves for you as it’s still quite early days even if your mum went early on her children. You are nearly over the finish line now-congrats!!!!

Thanks everyone Smile sometimes a bit of reassurance is all you need!! Hopefully it will hang on til full term then it has plenty of time to move!!!
