Hi ladies, I am 34+5 days and baby has been head down in a "great position" right from fhe start of the checkups until today... He has now turned and he is head up. I've got go back to MW again in 10 days to see if he has turned and if not will be sent for a scan and she mentioned trying to turn the baby. Has anyone experienced this? Is it painful?

I was offered the option of turning my DD but chose not to do it in the end. It wasn't so much the thought of it being painful that put me off but I didn't want to cause any unnecessary risk to my DD. They will warn you that there is a 1% chance of death with trying to turn a breech baby and the odds of it working and the baby remaining the right way round are quite low if I remember rightly. I didn't like those odds personally and convinced myself DD was the way round that she wanted to be! I had an EMCS eventually because DD was breech but it was completely fine.

You could have a look at the Spinning Babies website, I remember finding some interesting information there for potential natural ways to turn a breech baby.

Have you looked at acupuncture? I am not 100% certain but I think I read it can help with turning baby around and it is painless

My DD was breech at a similar point to you, she turned herself before the next check so there is still time. I did don't know about it at the time but I hear spinning babies website recommended a lot.

My first was like yours and never turned. I did have an ECV and it has a 50/50 chance of working, which didn't for me.

Second baby was breech and turned around 34-35 week.. my sister's turned at 38 weeks so you never know :)

My DS2 was breech at 34 weeks and my midwife said if he hadn’t turned by 36 weeks then they would talk to me about my options. By 36 weeks he was head down, so you still have time!

We had an ECV - they can only do it at 37 weeks so you have a way to go yet. Baby stayed the "correct" way up and arrived with no further issues.

If you have a ECV, it will be at the hospital (you have to take your hospital bag in, in case they have to deliver baby) and it's done by a consultant. Ask how regularly they do this - my consultant was the ECV person for the Trust. It's something you need a knack for, apparently, so you need the regular practice. It was uncomfortable but not painful. I had a light breakfast and spent an hour either side of the procedure being monitored to check that baby was ok.
