Storing pram outside!?

Hi everyone. So we're having our first baby in January and storage in our home is very limited. Weve already bought our pram but our intention was to store is outside in a storage box (which is under a shelter too) but I'm worried about damp/mould.
Has anyone got any experiences of storing their prams outside? We will be using it a lot so won't be left in there for days etc but it would be there all year round. Also, if storing the actual pram/carrycot bit is a bad idea what a out storing just the frame in there? Has anyone got any alternative outside storing ideas thay you've used and have worked? Thanks in advance x

I think it would be fine to leave the frame but I'd be reluctant to leave the carry cot as I'd be worried about cold and damp.

Do have a car? Could it go in the boot?

We are lucky to have a garage but often just leave it in the downstairs hall or downstairs cloakroom. Not sure if that's an option for you.

Greedytiger · 14/10/2019 21:32

If you have a car I would leave it in the car boot.

If not then look for a pram that folds small, and I would bring the carrycot part inside.

I stored mine in an external garage and it got damp and mouldy. Buy a small pram and fold it up in the hallway. (oops just reread and seen you already bought one) - put a mat down in the living room and lift it onto it when you come in - then use it as the safe place baby can sleep downstairs - so no moses basket needed as well.

Car boot? I’d maybe leave the frame outside but 100% keep the carry cot/pram seat indoors. I’d hate to think of the cold & damp!

SlightlySleepy · 14/10/2019 21:47

I stored mine in a Keter box. It went mouldy. Although those boxes keep the rain out, they're not heated so can't keep the damp out. Don't be me, learn from my bad experience!

INeedNewShoes · 14/10/2019 21:51

Aside from the risk of mould etc., a pram/pushchair seat that has been stored outside will feel very cold to the baby. You'd need to bring it into the house to warm up a bit on cold days.

I used the pram as DD's downstairs sleeping vessel when she was a newborn so although the pram was 'in the way' it was only taking up the same space as a Moses basket or whatever might have occupied downstairs.

After that phase I did start storing the chassis outside in a shed but the pushchair seat lives in the house.

Millymollymandybestie · 14/10/2019 21:51

Ours is in our porch. When I was using the Carry cot I would leave it up and push it under the stairs. When I had a double buggy that lives In the carboor generally

gonewiththerain · 14/10/2019 21:52

I keep mine in the car boot but if it’s got wet I bring it inside until it’s dry

caoraich · 14/10/2019 21:54

We kept the pram frame in the car boot and used the bassinet downstairs instead of a moses basket which worked well. Our one came with a bassinet stand for that purpose.
When I was going for a walk rather than out in the car it was easy enough to pop the bassinet straight on the frame while she was still in it. Make sure and keep the rain cover in the house too so it can dry OK.

When she moved up into the seat bit of the pram I started strapping her into the car seat while I assembled the pram as it was too much faff to lift her up while strapped into the seat!

stucknoue · 14/10/2019 21:57

I used mine as a Moses basket until 6 months. Pushed it around the flat

Catarinah · 14/10/2019 22:05

I do have a car yes, but its not parked right outside as we don't have a drive so it's on the road outside (a minute walk from the house really), so maybe storing the frame in there and the carrycot inside is our best option. Maybe the frame would be ok in the storage box under the shelter in the summer but not winter? I read online that even getting the frame wet/damp and storing it like that could cause it not to move properly... We do have a small porch but it would move movingthe dog to sleep somewhere else so it's all a bit of a jigsaw i guess!

I wouldn’t store it outside. Pram chassis can rust really easily. I suggest if you have a space issue inside the house you opt for a babyzen yoyo / mamas and papas armadillo or another lightweight pram. Those are easy to carry even if you live in a flat.

aweedropofsancerre · 14/10/2019 22:13

Mine went mouldy outside ...get the pram out of the box and keep it in the boot

holidays987 · 14/10/2019 22:22

I wouldn't.
Our house is small and v narrow so we chose a small / narrow pram. It usually got shoved in the car boot if we had guests coming round. Otherwise, unfortunately it took up space in our little hallway which wasn't ideal - but not as bad as leaving outdoors.
(Will be using same pram for our new baby expected soon and as soon as I can swap to a pushchair I will, folds away much easier).

georgialondon · 14/10/2019 22:23

I really wouldn't store it outside

Catarinah · 14/10/2019 22:26

@GrumpyHoonMain do they? I would've thought the chassis would've been ok on the storage box outside but again was concerned about that too!

My brother ruined his buggaboo by keeping it in a storage box outside. When we contacted them they said you need to follow the pram’s storage instructions so I have been paranoid about it when we bought a pram. If the instructions says outside storage is fine then great.

Catarinah · 14/10/2019 22:42

Thanks for the advice everyone, I guess we'll need to have a play around with our layout in the lounge and see what we come up with :/

I can't see if anyone has already suggested but you can get over door hangers for the frame, mine lives on the back of the utility room door, looks horrendous but works well!

Something similar to this

we stored our rumble seat in external garage and it is now mouldy Angry

TheDIsiilusionedAnarchist · 15/10/2019 01:18

We’ve stored ours outside in a Keter box for just under a year now. No mould or damp on either pram.

BarleyG · 15/10/2019 06:26

We stored ours in the garage and it went mouldy and had to be chucked away Confused

TipseyTorvey · 15/10/2019 06:58

We used one of these OUTOUR Waterproof Heavy Duty Storage Tent Bike Tent Bicycle Tent Space Saving Garden Lawn Patio Backyard Outdoor Pool Tools Storage Shed www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B072BJD3MP/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_v9vPDbGQ4975G

But it was for a second hand bugaboo that hadn't cost much. We kept the carry cot bit inside but when he moved to the normal buggy we left that outside in the tent and it was fine. The maclaren buggy on the other hand was in a shed and went completely mouldy. I suspect it had food from toddler hands wiped on it though that I hadn't spotted. Either that or the tent wasn't as damp.

dreamyflower · 15/10/2019 07:06

We store ours outside under motorbike cover. It's been fine 😊
