Hi,

I’m due to start ICSI/IVF in November. Started our journey Sept 17th where they checked my bloods. Was told on the 1st October all is normal for me.

I am now however, a week late for my period (never been late in my life!) not stressed, pregnant or under/over weight. After a lot of googling (I know I shouldn’t) the only other valid ish reason I can find is under active thyroid. My dad had this so obviously could be hereditary :(
Could this be the reason as to why I’m really late or would this have been picked up through my bloods in sept? Seems very strange all was/is fine until now...

Thank you.

My period used to have a laugh when I was due to start treatment. Some sort of psychological phenomenon.

You should be tested for your thyroid as a matter of urgency though as you shouldn’t start treatment if your TSH is elevated, even if the NHS say it’s in limits.

Also: have you done a pregnancy test? 😅

I’ve made an appointment for Monday! I’ll be so annoyed if this holds me back though 😭

Why from the age of 13/14 everything has been perfect and now aged 33 this happens! Do you not think it would have been picked up on blood test in September? I don’t feel stressed although my friend thinks I may be due to wanting it so bad and maybe delaying it.
Erghhh! Why not, never wanted auntie flo to come so much!

It would only show up on a blood test if they tested specifically for it...

They should test your tsh and t4 (and t3 would be ideal). Tsh should be below 2.5. T4 should be in the upper range of normal.

Just because it's hereditary and you have one late period doesn't mean you are hypothyroid though.... but yes you should always be tested for it when struggling to conceive.

More time info on several past mn threads and thyroid uk.

Thanks so much! I really hope it’s not, just scratching my head for answers as I’ve never ever been late.
Will certainly been speaking to doc on Monday.
