Hi Everyone!

I'm new to this and really need some advice.
Im 15weeks +4 and have been placed under consultant for my pregnancy due to my weight/bmi.
I haven't had any appointments yet but I'm feeling really anxious about it because I don't know what to expect.

Has anyone else had the same experience that they can share?

Thanks!! Smile

Consultant appointments were really quick, booked in for extra scans - measuring bump doesn't work if you have a belly. Also met with the anaesthetist incase I needed an epidural.

@Jessicaroseday Iv seen 3 consultants, had scans every 3 weeks from 30 weeks also being induced tomorrow due to baby's size (39 weeks)

If your BMI is over 40 you have to speak to an anaesthetist incase you want / need to have an epidural, I didn't have to do this but it is in your notes.

As long as you don't have any problems (gestation diabetes, pre eclampsia etc) then you will be classed as low risk at the end and will be treated as a normal delivery x

I also had really quick consultant appointments. Consultant usually checked my last growth scan (which I was having due to higher bmi) and discussed what we were going to do about some issues (which I had near the end and were nothing to do with weight/bmi).
Also a check by the anaesthetist who just said because I 'was carrying some extra weight' wanted to check my spine and throat so that they could be prepared if I needed an epidural or incase in an emergency they needed to get an airway in me. Took 2 mins and she was very nice.
That was it. All quick and nothing at all to worry about at all.

I had 2 consultant appointments and extra growth scans at 32 and 36 weeks. I also was tested for gestational diabetes at 26 weeks.

Apart from that everything was really normal, I didn't need to see anyone about epidurals etc (it was never even mentioned as a problem) and had one during labour (unplanned).

I was classed as high risk because of my bmi which restricted where j could give birth, but due to being induced and a neonatal alert (completely unrelated to bmi) I had to go to a labour ward instead of a birth centre anyway

Hey girl!

Congratulations - I had two extra scans and a tester for gestational diabetes too.

Everything was fine and no issues, the only thing I've felt was maybe different about the process is that the scans are a bit more difficult as I carry a lot of my fat on my stomach. A lot of tilting me really far backwards to try and get a better view of baby. A bit embarrassing but necessary.

hey @Jessicaroseday I'm 15+4 today too! There's a big support & chat thread going for plus size pregnant women, I'll see if I can bump it and tag you x

Crimearino · 13/10/2019 11:01

@goodnightsugarpop could you tag me in that too please?
