Some people are saying they are fine, some saying they are not, shops seem on the fence.

Any advice?

Why do you want them?
To me they seem utterly pointless.

PrayingandHoping · 12/10/2019 11:09

Nhs and lullaby trust say def no.

It's def a no

Dumptyhumpty101 · 12/10/2019 11:09

No!

user1483387154 · 12/10/2019 11:14

nope. suffocation hazzard

SmileCheese · 12/10/2019 11:20

Some people are saying they are fine

Who is saying they are fine? Noone with any ounce of sense would suggest putting a cot bumper onto a cot. They are a huge suffocation, strangulation and choking risk and both the lullaby trust and NHS say not to use them.

It staggers me that people don't listen to the experts on these matters. Children can and have died from using them why would anyone take the risk?

Twirlypoos · 12/10/2019 11:21

Definitely not

FenellaMaxwell · 12/10/2019 11:22

It doesn’t matter if “some people” say they are fine. The people who actually know - the NHS, the Lullaby Trust say they are categorically not fine. So don’t use them. Simple as that!

DameSylvieKrin · 12/10/2019 11:24

The people selling them say they are fine, but they are not disinterested.
They are a known suffocation risk as others have said.
Also bigger babies can use them to climb out of the cot.

Justasconfusedwithnumber2 · 12/10/2019 11:26

Nope, don't buy them OP. They serve little purpose but are a big risk

ItchySeveredFoot · 12/10/2019 11:27

A big no! They're so dangerous. If you want to stop arms and legs getting stuck try an air wrap.

anothernamejeeves · 12/10/2019 11:27

Can kill your child

You wouldn't put a carving knife in your babies cot so why cot bumpers?

Pancakeflipper · 12/10/2019 11:32

Nay

stophuggingme · 12/10/2019 11:33

Is it because they look nice?
🙄

MsSquiz · 12/10/2019 11:33

This is a good article on clear cots for babies from the Lullaby trust:

MustardScreams · 12/10/2019 11:33

No one professional will ever say they’re fine. Your pal that used them and nothing happened might do, but do actual research rather than anecdotal.

They are dangerous. Do not use them.

CherryPavlova · 12/10/2019 11:40

Definitely not. They increase the risk of entrapment and death significantly.

MrsW85 · 12/10/2019 11:42

No!! Just no!! Search justice for Preston and cot bumper deaths! I hate the bastard things!

MyDcAreMarvel · 12/10/2019 11:44

Yes they are fine for a reborn doll.

Tini17 · 12/10/2019 11:45

Nope. Nobody with an ounce of sense says they’re ok.

readingnc · 12/10/2019 11:54

God no

TheSunAlsoRises · 12/10/2019 11:55

No

fitzbilly · 12/10/2019 11:59

No. Always no. Why would you even risk it?

Cherry85 · 12/10/2019 12:10

Thank you! Good tonhere it's a straight no. We got gifted one but I had heard they weren't recommended anymore so was confused.

Asked the guys in john lewis and they said it was personal preference?! Why are they still selling them is what i don't understand!!

OP posts:
sewinginscotland · 12/10/2019 12:14

They are selling them to make money, just like the rest of the unnecessary stuff they also sell.

We have breathable cot bumpers because ds kept on getting his legs stuck in the bars and waking up crying with pain. Considering how often he sleeps with his face pressed against the bars I wouldn't want decorative fabric ones.

Angelinthenightx · 12/10/2019 13:13

Ive never used these,i wouldnt as your cot shouldnt be free of things for cot death, i know many people use them but i wouldnt, its just down to your choice, they really are not needed.
