I have been on clexane injection since thursday and MIL has been coming down every day to do it for me, and today I decided that I had to try and do it myself. I was sweating, and felt sick, but I DID IT!!! Took a lot to actually to push it into my skin, but managed it after a few minutes of 'I can't do it' lol

kitsandbits · 14/08/2007 12:37

well done, very brave

Jackstini · 14/08/2007 12:39

Well done Sparkly - v proud of you!

sparklygothkat · 14/08/2007 12:42

I only did it, because we are taking the kids away to the caravan next weekend and knew that MIL wouldn't be there. She is coming down tomorrow to make sure I can do it again, and then i'm flying solo.. [scared]

Hi Sparkly... well done! I totally sympathise. I had to do clexane injections twice a day throughout my pregnancy and for 6 weeks afterwards. My DH was doing them for me at first but I found it a real turning point when I could do them myself. Something about taking control of the situation instead of it being something that's done TO you... if that makes any sense? Anyway, congratulations and keep up the good work!

sparklygothkat · 14/08/2007 12:49

I did find that it didn't sting as much today, because when it started to sting I stopped and slowed down the flow. I was so scared, but knew I had to do it..

Well done brave girl

Gumbo · 14/08/2007 12:54

Well done! I know what you mean - it goes against everything we've learnt, having to ram something sharp into ourselves deliberately!

(I get to start mine for this pregnancy today - yay! )

emj23 · 14/08/2007 12:55

Sorry to be daft, but what is clexane?

sparklygothkat · 14/08/2007 12:57

Its a drug to stop blood clots. I have Protein S deficity (sp?) and need it to try and stop preterm labours (have had 3 premature babies and 2 miscarriages)

whenever i give clexane i tend to push it in really quickly... i always get a look of amazement, followed by a 'i didn't feel a thing' (i have a knack with it)

well done you though!! i'm fine with sticking needles into other people...totally different with myself!! big wimp!!!

emj23 · 14/08/2007 13:01

Oh, I see, sparklygothkat. Well done you for doing the injection! I don't think I'd be brave enough!

PandaG · 14/08/2007 13:01

well done SGK - I had to have clexane for a couple of weeks after I gave birth to DD, couldn't bring myself to self inject, fortunately our neighbours at the time were nurses and were happy to oblige! If it had been all pregnancy I hope I would have been able to do it.

RGPargy · 14/08/2007 13:04

Wooooo!!! Well done SGK!!! I knew you could do it!!

[proud]

sparklygothkat · 14/08/2007 13:07

I still can't believe I did it.. The phone went just as I stuck myself, and DH answered it, it was the social worker calling about Dd1's care package, so he had to chat to her while I slowly plunged the drug in lol..

OP posts:
RGPargy · 14/08/2007 13:08

"sorry, SGK cant come to the phone right now, she's jacking up atm" Oh what fun you could have.......

sparklygothkat · 14/08/2007 13:10

He actually said 'oh hang on she is just injecting herself, she will be with you in a minute.... the shame
