I'm in AGONY.My groin...My vagina...my legs...my back...my stomach...I've been to midwife & g.p over the last few weeks as its worsening and been told its spd and a referral for physio will be all they advise...A support belt and pain killers...But I'm having my c section in 2 weeks. So prob no point referring...SO...I've just been putting up with it...Got so bad last weekend I ended up just going to triage as I couldnt handle it.My back was burning...My left leg hurt...And my pelvis and vagina were just so heavy and walking is painful...I was checked for fetal movements on the monitor ect and they felt my bump/groin and checked my cervix which was closed...all good. Its SPD go home.Feet up ect So I have tried!...Had a random bout of vomitting Monday...Which was odd..But felt ok after...Then tuesday the pain got unreal in my left leg/groin and I could barely walk and i noticed a lump and pain on my left labia...So off to the g.p I went again...Its apparently an infected cyst and my glands in the groin are up...so anti biotics it is...I'm on them...and cyst has shrunk a bit...But OMG I'm still in so much pain...My back is burning...My hips and pelvis and back click and grind...Im hobbling around...I scream when I get up from sitting...I scream when I'm rolling from one side to the other in bed..I feel hot and sickly (no temperature) But what more can be said or done?I've had swabs & urine tested...Just feel like I cannot do this for 2 more weeks...And now I'm close to the end I'm just panicking I'm going down hill and something bad is brewing...Probably last min nerves...Has anyone else just survived the agony of spd and it's all been ok?...I dont want to keep going to the g.p and triage to be told the same thing! But I just feel like this surely cant be right!

Hi lovely,
SPD is awful.
Always turn in bed with legs together, you really need a maternity belt for a physio ASAP. Also sleep with a pillow in between your legs.
I was on crutches in the end with mine.
Feeling poorly aches etc doesn’t sound like SPD, but all the movement issues and pain is very familiar to me.
Try self referring to physio.
It will all be worth it I promise.
But monitor that temp, and speak to midwife. Just get everything checked.
You are nearly there.

Mintypea5 · 10/10/2019 17:14

I've been like this since about 23 weeks. It's awful! I literally cry everyday from the pain. My only relief is seeing a chiropractor (privately) also have a 15 month old so it's been sooooooo hard. I've basically stopped sleeping because the pain at night is impossible nothing helps anymore.

I'm 35 weeks so still got time to go but consultant has agreed to induce me on due date so I'm not suffering any longer than that

piercedmyfootonaspike · 10/10/2019 17:15

Poor you, you have my sympathies as I remember this feeling so well. Currently have a 12 week old asleep on me and had awful spd during pregnancy and was on crutches for 4 months! The end bit is the hardest, the pain is just draining isn't it? I promise you it's all worth it though when you get those newborn cuddles.
Agree with the tips above, try getting a direct self referral to the physio department as it won't hurt to be on their radar even though you've only 2 weeks left as you may need physio after the birth anyway.

Cantthinkofanameeee · 10/10/2019 17:56

Thankyou all so much...I'm sorry you've all suffered but its reassuring that SPD has had you to the same excruciating pain I feel...I dont feel as worried that its something more serious...This is my 4th baby.(And last) I've never had this with any other pregnancys. So I was quite worried when the pain began...Especially the awful crunching and clicking when I move...I've got a pregnancy pillow which I sleep with between my legs...And i just try not to move all night to avoid the crunching pain.If i get numb on that side and try to turn it's so so bad.If I roll with my legs together it gives me stomach pain in my c section scar.My stomach muscles have separated so I'm so weak in that area.I just feel totally broken.Im only 29 and I feel like a 70 year old the way i have to move around!I also have a 2 year old and lifting him on & off the toilet is hell...I dread him needing a poo bless him!The walk to & from nursery is only 10 minutes but I walk (waddle) so slowly it hurts every step...I'm at give up point this week...My c section is 14 days away...So I'm just clinging on now. Thanks again for all your replys. It really does help knowing I'm not alone X

Have you got anyone to help you with the nursery run?
Have you got a little stool so he can climb of the toilet himself?
My husband used to roll me in bed, I already felt like a whale so that really helped!
Please please look into the belt, it’s a life saver!

Cantthinkofanameeee · 10/10/2019 18:18

No...all my family freinds and partner work full time. And hes only just started so not like I could ask any of the mums to help...Would just feel weird. He only goes twice a week.So I'm just trying to scrape through those walks. My partner rolls me in bed aswell and pulls me up by arm to get up....doenst help I need to get up 3 4 times more than normal for the toilet and my toilets downstairs!!.Sad..Feels so unattractive doesnt it hahah...I'm definetely going to buy a belt on amazon now...thankyou x

And yeah he has a stool to stand up for a wee...But the mini seat he has on the toilet for poos has a big lip on for between the legs and he cant get on that himself...When he says he needs a poo...I'm like noooo! (In my head) 😂

Do u think he would go on a potty for a bit instead? Just trying to think of a solution.

Cantthinkofanameeee · 10/10/2019 18:56

I could try that couldnt I...Just thinking is it worth it for the sake of 2 weeks? He had a bit of a toilet phobia and now hes so good...I'd hate to reverse all the hard work

Yeah that’s a difficult one, but explain to him it’s not for long and it’s just to help mummy. Maybe do a lovely sticker chart for him?

Sleepinglemon · 10/10/2019 19:38

I got loads of advice from physio for SPD which has made mine dramatically better:

  1. apply heat to lower back, bottom and hips (nowhere near bump)
  2. Use tens machine same places (again, nowhere near bump)
  3. Do cat, cow and pigeon yoga moves (google or you tube)
  4. Pelvic floor exercises
  5. Belt
  6. Bounce on pregnancy ball
  7. Massage bottom and hips (nowhere near bump). Can self massage using tennis ball on the wall
  8. Take small steps and move slowly
  9. Keep moving gently or it'll get worse
10. Swim gently 11. Warm baths 12. Sleep on side, pillow between knees 13. Keep knees together getting out of car and rolling over in bed 14. Sit down to get dressed.
Cantthinkofanameeee · 11/10/2019 06:56

Yeah thankyou @molly29 I will try that...I'm going to try all those things @Sleepinglemon I was keeping my legs together last night when rolling or moving and it really made all the differance..Still hurt...But it felt much better...thankyou x

Oh I’m so glad you had a better night. You can tick another day off. X

NatzCNLS · 11/10/2019 09:50

Hello,

I've been told that I have SPD - very mild in comparrison to yours @Cantthinkofanameeee! I have been told to do swimming and pregnancy yoga. I saw a physio who discussed some strengthening exercises, but I can't remember what she told me to do and she didn't email me the exercises.

I have just copied your list of advice @Sleepinglemon. I am really hoping I can stop it getting any worse. I am waking in the night with hip pains from laying on my side (with pillow between legs), and am wearing a support belt when walking - but yesterday walking was extremely painful. I had SPD with my middle daughter in 2008 from around 37 weeks, but was able to manage till the birth and then it went away.

This time it started at 17/18 weeks, and is getting progressively worse.

Wishing the 2 week wait away for your C-section @Cantthinkofanameeee x

Cantthinkofanameeee · 11/10/2019 12:46

Thankyou @NatzCNLS I'm sorry your suffering. But I'm glad you've caught it early enough to get some advice and physio...I dont wish it on anyone...I want to be happy and excited this last 2 weeks before shes born.Cleaning and nesting ECT...But I'm just clawing my way through each day.But I guess I'm lucky I can see the near end!..13 days to go...X

@Cantthinkofanameeee - I have finally found how to get back on to Mumsnet - am so out of practice! I hope you are well and that baby is now safely here and you are free of the SPD pain Smile
I've turned a corner, managing to get the pain under control although it's still there, I know when to stop and how to ease it.

Cantthinkofanameeee · 05/11/2019 13:12

@NatzCNLS Baby is here!We are both safe and well...she will be 2 weeks old on Thursday...Shes amazing.Worth all of that pain.Hang in there girl!..I still feel a bit odd in my back and groin...Bit clicky. But hoping it will ease off as the weeks pass...

Congratulations @Cantthinkofanameeee! Wonderful news Grin
It will take a little while before your hormones start to calm down and you need to allow time to heal too. If after 6 weeks you're still not happy with how things are, make sure you get seen by a physio.
In the mean time, I hope you are having lots of lovely newborn snuggles with your little baby girl, I'm looking forward to getting those myself in a few weeks. Best of luck and happy mummy/daughter time xx
