I had a growth scan this morning and a couple in the waiting room had really nasty colds. They were coughing constantly and blowing their noses and were obviously quite unwell, the dad could barely breathe. I know you can't judge how far along a person is by their bump but the lady didn't have a bump at all.

Would you go to the hospital where there's a room full of pregnant women with a bad cold?

I was a bit annoyed because I had a cold about a month ago and it completely wiped me out! I really don't want another one.

I think at least the sick dad should have waited outside or something.

Am I just being a bitch?!

I think you're overreacting. The woman being in early pregnancy doesn't mean she's not there for a serious reason. Sit as far away as possible and use the hand sanitizer.

I don’t think you are at all I’m wary of getting sick due to a difficult pregnancy thus far and also another health condition that getting sick can get quite serious for me. Hospitals are dirty at the best of times I think even with the best efforts to keep them clean so although I wouldn’t say anything in my head I’d be thinking god no if I had to sit beside him in the waiting room😂 I think even if I was having a healthy pregnancy and outside issue aside I still wouldn’t want his germs as I’m sure many others wouldn’t!😂😂😂 it’s one of those things, I remember years ago a family member getting chemo and the waiting room had a few guests that were not patients absolutely smothering with colds so if people are inconsiderate there I don’t think you have a hope in a maternity hospital!!!

I mean what did you expect them to do? The woman to rearrange her scan? The entire scan schedule from October to May would be buggered. There isn't the flexibility or the space and thousands of women would have to go without timely scans.

The dad to miss out on seeing his child and supporting his partner? Don't see that happening, and if she had a cold too him waiting outside would hardly have done any good.

Colds are annoying but they aren't a threat to a pregnancy and they're a fact of life. They weren't sneezing in your face; take some hand sanitizer and wash your hands regularly. Unless you plan to sit in your house from now to birth you can catch a cold anywhere.

Bluebelltulip · 10/10/2019 14:16

It depends why she was there which you will never know. If her appointment was something non-urgent that could be rearranged then it would have been courteous to do so, however there are many other reasons that the appointment was more important than not spreading a cold.

Mammyloveswine · 10/10/2019 14:17

It's a cold, not chicken pox... not great to catch it but they were waiting there for a reason.

I didn't get a bump until around 30 weeks with both my children, so that comment is ridiculous. Use hand sanitiser and try and keep rational.

I hope all went ok with your scan.

PotteringAlong · 10/10/2019 14:18

Yes. It’s a cold, not Ebola.

I would have.

I would have.

And how easy do you think that is? There aren't very many gaps in the schedule, and scans need to take place within a relatively narrow time window to be as accurate as possible. Last minute pull-outs mean a wasted scan slot and cumulative delays for everyone who needs scanned. If people cancelled for colds, it would cause havoc and many women wouldn't be able to be rebooked in the important window.

Sirzy · 10/10/2019 14:38

There isn’t the flexibility in the system to cancel appointments when you have a cold.

She may have been there for an urgent reason.

LoisLittsLover · 10/10/2019 14:41

Scans have to be done within certain timeframes especially the 12 week one. Think you are being ott

CostaLotta · 10/10/2019 14:46

It's autumn, almost everyone will have a cold in the next few weeks. You're being OTT.

Teddybear45 · 10/10/2019 14:46

Colds aren’t harmful to babies and most pregnant women, and can be treated in the small percentage of pregnant women who do get complications. So it’s fine. In the UK. In India they might have been asked to leave because they have other serious illnesses that also mimic colds, we don’t though.

Pinkflipflop85 · 10/10/2019 15:50

Yabvu. It's a cold, not the bloody plague.
