Posted on here Yday and got really good Advice!
was suffering from palpitations, chest pain and shortness of breath, my ECG came back clear which is good.
Over the past couple of days as well i have been having headaches here and there and also seeing white dots in my vision randomly just floating about? i just feel generally unwell too. I Called my midwife this morning regarding the spots in vision ect and she said its impossible to develop pre clampsia this early on ( i'm a few days off 16 weeks ) I take Asprin daily as I'm at risk of developing pre Clampsia.
I have seen that you can get pre clampsia early in pregnancy just thought it was weird the midwfie said it was impossible and to speak to my GP and my GP is putting it down as pregnancy symptoms. Just feel as if somethings not right and don't know where to turn now?

Hey didn't want to just read and run but I would possibly ask for some tests to be done have you a midwife app at 16 weeks? They check your urine anyway but if your not happy with the outcome I would ask for further investigation you can never be to safe.
I've also been having the same the white spots the headaches going mega hot etc I'm 24 weeks and have app tomorrow so I'm going to be asking my midwife about it. X

To be officially diagnosed you need high blood pressure (above a certain level) and protein in your urine. The visual disturbances by themselves may be nothing to worry about or it could be early signs of high BP - but you won’t be diagnosed until you get the protein too if that makes sense?

The general consensus is that you can't really have preeclampsia until 20 weeks of pregnancy and even then it's very rare. That is probably why the midwife is saying it's impossible. It's not really impossible but very, very unlikely.

The symptoms you're describing sound a lot like a bug that is going about at the moment. I've not long recovered from it and 2 other women in my work got it too (still recovering) none of us are pregnant.

If your symptoms are still persisting at the next midwife appointment you have, I would bring it up and she can take your blood pressure (she would anyway) and she can also take a urine sample as well. When is your next appointment?

Will you have a 16 week appointment soon? They will probably check BP and urine then and that night shed some more light.

Not impossible just rare as it’s actually happened to me(I’m 25 weeks pregnant and mine started at 16 weeks) I’m on aspirin and a High dose of Labetalol now to control the blood pressure and have extra appointments with both the maternity hospital and cardiology department and my GP. Medication seems to be working reasonably well though I have been admitted a few times now throughout due to it. Not trying to frighten you but it could be that, they diagnosed mine initially with high blood pressure not present before pregnancy (have heart issues so mine was checked regularly anyway so we knew what normal was for me ) and I had protein in the urine. Sent into the Casulty of the maternity hospital for bloods and scan ect. They also were able to note on my bigger scan a blood supply issue too to one of the ovaries with a Doppler so apparently that is another potential warning sign, and I also had a lot of severe headaches that wouldn’t go, floaters in eyes and some serious swelling of my hands and feet. What they said to me in my big scan was that if they hadn’t copped the issue before I had it, the blood supply would have alerted them to it anyway so not to worry about it that they already knew it was there. I also had palpitations but actually I have a heart issue as mentioned before so I don’t think that was necessarily related directly. My consultant in the high risk clinic said it’s not very common to me but it does happen especially in certain groups of people. It’s also more common in your first pregnancy too! Palpitations wise, my cardiologist told me that pregnancy is pro arrhythmic, so many ladies develop a funny heart rate during it due to the extra load on the heart. Most of the time completely harmless and it’s extremely common. If you let them know about it they might just do a holter monitor on you for 24 hours to have a nose at what it’s doing, and if it is an issue there are medications there because I’m also on one now that is considered grand in pregnancy. They are making leaps and bounds in the treatment of pre eclampsia in pregnancy now if it is that, and a lot of the time it can be very well controlled so best of luck and you are right to be careful!

@yummymummy2020
thanks so much for that it really helped, i have been on Asprin since 12 weeks so i'm hoping it reduced my chances of getting pre clampsia however this is my first pregnancy and i was put down at high risk of developing it. I will mention it in my next appointment thank you x

Try not to worry too much, I started getting really bad headaches and seeing spots constantly when I was around the same stage. It was a combination of hormones and I needed my eyes testing/new glasses.

Speak to your midwife at your next appointment and she should check your urine and BP, try not to worry in the meantime
