Does anyone know much about this or had this. saw midwife today who is referring me for scan as she said it feels like there is a lot of fluid around baby and could be polyhydramnios. I've googled but this has just got me in a bit of a panic.

I had this in my second pregnancy 21 years ago, so things/treatment might have changed. I wasmonitred very closely with twice weekly scans then twas admitted 2 weeks before ds was born and had to have a c- section. It was fine though and DS was perfect.

Good luck

I have this (first pregnancy). Midwife picked it up at around 27 weeks, had a scan the next day which confirmed it and have been having weekly scans since then (currently 33 weeks). Fluid has stayed high but baby measuring as expected. After the first scan they did send me for GTT/torch screen to see if they could find a cause but all came back clear.

Hoping to get a plan of action from the consultant in the next few weeks as at the moment it's just a "come back next week for another scan" type thing. They don't seem overly concerned but I think it can mean you need to go into hospital as soon as your waters break in case the cord is in the wrong place.

How far along are you? I know it's easier said than done but try not to worry. It can sort itself out over time apparently, although mine hasn't so far Confused.

@ELM8 I was admitted to hospital at 37 weeks because of the way DS was lying (transverse lie) so if my waters broke he needed to be delivered by cs within 10 minutes. Another friend with the same condition wasn't admitted because her baby was head down and engaged.

Hopefully neither of you will be admitted and it will sort itself out but I wasn't warned of the possibility and so wasnt at all prepared for it. There was no Google back then so I was in the dark.

Thanks for your replies. I'm 28 +5 got scan tomorrow so will hopefully know more then. I've already had the GTT and that came back fine. What's TORCH screen?

Thanks @EmmaGrundyForPM that's good to know!

Good luck @Wornoutandexhausted ... torch screen is just a blood test Smile

I had this in my pregnancy (DD is now 8 months) - it turned out to be a side effect of Gestational Diabetes even though I had passed the GTT the week before the polyhydramnios was spotted. Initially my fluid levels were above the highest level on the chart but once I got the GD under control with insulin the fluid went down. Baby was born a normal weight (under 8lb).

I was really worried about it but all turned out fine.

Hope your scan goes well @Wornoutandexhausted , I had mine today and fluid has gone back down.. so it can sort itself out I guess! Smile

I had this with my 1st but not my 2nd. Dont panic my pregnancy was normal just had extra scans and had to go straight to hospital when my waters broke because there can be complications but luckily I didnt experience them

I went for a 28 week growth scan today and told I had this, I'm an anxious person and now I'm really getting worked up over it, I've been referred to fetal medicine for a more in depth scan did anyone else get referred Thankyou

Wornoutandexhausted · 10/10/2019 21:31

Nataliemum I went for the scan today also 28weeks but turns out it's not polyhydramnios it's just a large baby

But during the scan they were very reassuring and made me feel at ease pointing parts out and saying what looked ok and normal as they did the measurements. I'm sure they will talk you through everything and make you feel at ease when you have your appointment

They said she could have just done a wee before the scan which could have caused the fluid to be high, I'm hoping that's all it is, I'm glad everything is ok with you and your little one
