Panorama and Haromony Test

Am I being silly to want to book in and have both of these test with two different hospitals just to eliminate as much risk as possible?

Has anyone done this? My hubby wants me to do it as we feel the price is a small price to pay for peace of kind but just wanted others thoughts really.

I have trust issues where health is concerned and just don't take the first answer from medical professionals. They're human like the rest of us and we can all make mistakes.

If you’re not going to get reassurance from a single test then I don’t suppose you have much option but to do both. I say go ahead if you can afford it but make sure you’ve done your research as from what I’ve read they’re very good and thorough tests. My harmony is next week so fingers crossed no mistakes will be made!

You’d be wasting £500, I suppose, UNLESS you are so sure that a high risk result would lead to you taking action that the 0.001% chance of a false negative isn’t a chance to take.

I had NIPT at ten weeks and thought I was paranoid! Do you have a cause to think you’ll be especially high risk?

I wouldn’t have either. The harmony and panorama tests are the best known NIPTs, but they are not the best tests. I’d have either the Nifty or the Iona test. Both are NIPTs, but they are more accurate for Edwards and pataus than the harmony and panorama tests. I think the Iona is (only just) the most accurate of the 2 but it doesn’t test for sex chromosome abnormalities whereas the Nifty does.

If you go to the bottom of the page of this link you can click on the individual tests and it gives more information about their sensitivities for the different conditions.

We had two - SAFE and Harmony. We already booked Harmony when hospital offered us SAFE so we just went ahead with both. Both said the same (low risk) though in all honesty one would have been enough to calm me down.
