Flu vaccine

I’m a bit hesitant about getting the flu vaccine. Any opinions please? Did anyone not get it done during pregnancy?

I’m not anti vax at all and will get everything else. As there are different types of flu strain it’s possible to still get the flu anyway I assume.

The vaccine helps protect the baby as well as you

I can’t think of a single reason not to get it. It protects you and your baby from something potentially deadly.

M0reGinPlease · 08/10/2019 20:07

Why are you hesitant OP? I didn't get it whilst pregnant but only because I'd already had a flu jab a couple of months before I conceived.

Please get it. The Australian flu season which ours tends to mirror was brutal this year. It’s protection for you, your baby and the vulnerable amongst us who can’t be vaccinated themselves. I had it 2 weeks ago at 36 weeks pregnant with absolutely no ill effects whatsoever. Yes, it’s still possible to catch other strains not covered by the vaccine, which couldn’t possibly cover them all, but any protection is good as far as I’m concerned.

I didn't have it. Me and baby absolutely fine - trust your own feelings.

Robs20 · 08/10/2019 20:17

I got it today. The benefits far outweigh the risks.

The vaccine that’s injected isn’t a live vaccine. You can’t catch flu from it. I am immunosuppressed so I can’t take live vaccines. It doesn’t cover for all strains but protects against the ones that are deemed to be the greatest risk this year. I’d get it.

dementedpixie · 08/10/2019 20:43

The nasal one is live but the injected one isnt

Bumpingalong84 · 08/10/2019 20:52

I Am 7.5wks and had mine last Friday. As other posters have said, it’s completely safe and far more risk not having it and getting the flu than actually having it. I also had it during my pregnancy with DD 4yrs ago and all was fine.

If still unsure check out the nhs website they recommend pregnant women having it!

ronniemipperton · 08/10/2019 20:54

I got it today. Not sure why you wouldn’t.

GetTheSprinkles · 08/10/2019 21:51

Benefit outweighs the risk so why not🤷‍♀️ You wouldn't forgive yourself if you or baby became ill because you didnt get the jab. I had mine in Boots yesterday at 35w pregnant- quick, easy & free:D

nataliemum25 · 08/10/2019 21:53

I had mine today, it protects both mum and baby

Tippety · 08/10/2019 21:57

Yes, get it. Why wouldn't you?

Rosegoldmum · 08/10/2019 21:58

I too was hesitant to get flu vaccine when pregnant, ended up with bad flu & was very unwell

Rami07 · 08/10/2019 22:11

Thanks everyone

I'd like to share my story, 23 years ago I gave birth to twins. Four weeks later we found our daughter dead, intially it was thought it was a cot death. However, the post mortem revealed that it was the flu that had killed her, I also was suffering from the flu.
If the flu vaccine had been available then, I would have received it as it would have protected my daughter and I.

Resurrecting this thread to say I’m so sorry @serene12 and I think you are exceptionally courageous to share your story, and without meaning to politicise your daughter’s passing in any way, if there were ever a reason to encourage vaccination this is it. Thank you for sharing with us.
