Heart palpitations and pain, need advice

Looking for some advice, I'm 15 weeks and 3 days and for about 2/3 weeks I've been having heart palpitations, heart flutters that happen a few times a day, shortness of breath even when resting and a pain in my left chest.
I do suffer from anxiety so heart palpitations are normal for me its just all the other symptoms that I'm experiencing the now I'm a bit worried about.
For example, When i was walking up the stairs to the train station this morning, theres around 30 stairs i was so out of breath and the pain in my chest started its a dull pain and about 30 minutes later it went away but the pain comes and goes randomly as well.
i went to the doctors Yestarday the Dr took my pulse, listened to my heart and chest and said everything seemed fine it was just a part of being pregnant?
I'm not to convinced tbh, has anyone has any similar expereinces

Did you get an ECG? If not then the next time it happens go straight to A&E with chest pains and don’t tell them you have anxiety so they can check you completely.

physicskate · 08/10/2019 11:15

Ditto about if chest pains recur.

Have they run bloods for anaemia?

@Teddybear45
I'm going for a ECG tomorrow the Dr gave me a we slip for a drop in appointment after me saying i wasnt really happy for it to be dismissed as a pregnancy symptom, i'm just a bit worried about what it could be

Blood volumes in our pregnant bodies surge, and when we go through a spike it can cause palpitations as the heart rate adjusts. It’s a very normal symptom.

If an ECG will reassure you, ask at your GP surgery. In the very unlikely event that you have an underlying heart condition, the ECG will pick it up.

In my sister in law’s case the palpitations / anxiety were considered the first symptom of high blood pressure - she had all the other symptoms of preclampsia already and so was treated before her bp went high.

It might be worth asking them to check your thyroid function, I'm hypothyroid and when my dose isn't right I get palpitations

@devilishlygood
Thank you, I am getting a ECG, i think its just the chest pain thats causing me to worry

Yeah sounds like you need a full work up. They should do it anyway when you go in for your ecg but do remind them that you are pregnant and high risk for pe

blackcat86 · 08/10/2019 14:08

I'm surprised the GP didnt check your blood pressure. I had similar at around 18 weeks. I found staying hydrated really helped and I had to carry my asthma inhaler (I have some shortness of breath associated with asthma but rarely use my rescue inhaler if ever). After a couple of weeks it went. I also heard it was about blood volume and common at that point in pregnancy

RealMermaid · 08/10/2019 14:09

I had really bad heart palpitations a few weeks back. I'm prone to them anyway. Went to a&e, had an ECG which showed the palpitations and got thoroughly checked out but in the end they decided it was a normal side effect of pregnancy and mine were just worse because they're normally worse than other people anyway! Definitely get checked out but hopefully there's nothing to worry about. Mine improveda lot after a few days.

pinkstar01 · 08/10/2019 14:30

I was the same up till about 20 weeks and everything was fine, no high blood pressure or heart issue which I thought it must be. Definitely get I checked but it's probably just the pregnancy affecting your body

Raindancer411 · 09/10/2019 15:28

I remember when I first started having my palpations, the doc said that it's common in women in their 30s and can happen for no reason. It's funny as my mum had some in her 30s too.

Also my GP said lots of people have them but not everyone feels them. In fact my friend had a heart monitor and she has loads but never feels any 🤔

gkeal3 · 09/10/2019 17:26

I went to my midwife with these symptoms and she sent me straight to a&e. 8 hours later I was discharged with blood thinning injections until they could scan me for a blood clot. They'll have to rule that out as it's very dangerous in pregnancy.
Luckily because I had bled during this pregnancy they didn't want me on the thinners so I was called back within 12 hours to have the test and there was no sign of a blood clot and I didn't have to continue with the Injections. Please go to a&e with these symptoms

You can ask for a 24 hour holter monitor also, my cardiologist told me pregnancy is pro arrhythmic due to the higher volume of blood and pressure on the body so it can be really common to get a few runs of funny beats, generally they are completely harmless but you should def investigate! I have an arrhythmia Since before pregnancy and they can be tricky to catch on an ecg as it’s a small snap shot of time , unless you are lucky enough (or unlucky really!)to be actively experiencing the symptoms when you get called in to the nurse in a and e to get one. The 24 hour monitor tends to pick them up a bit better as it’s non stop for that period of time. They can also slap it on for 48 hours or even a week if necessary. If it is problematic you can go on pregnancy friendly medications, I’m on some myself now and they make a huge difference! Side note, this pregnancy I have pre eclampsia too, well controlled but I actually don’t know if my palpitations got worse due to that or pure pregnancy. Most people that get them in pregnancy though lose them again when the baby is born! def worth checking out just because there are things they can do to make you more comfy if you need it!

Yummymummy2020 · 10/10/2019 15:08

I should have added, with my arrhythmia shortness of breath Is a more noticeable symptom than the palpitations for me and I suffer a lot exercising since getting pregnant from it as a result!
