I am currently 20 weeks pregnant. my height is 5'2" and my weight is 59 kilos. That puts my BMI somewhere around 24 which till now is healthy I guess ??
but initally my weight was around 53 /54 kilo approx and within a month or so it jumped to 12 kilos. This was during my 12 week NT scan .
My obgyn scolded me and said my baby was just about the length of finger , so the 2 kilo weight gain was not reasonable. She wrote in my report card "diet control" . However now after 2 months , I have gained 2.5/3 kilos more . I am wondering if she would scold me again now . I just can't control my hunger.

I also feel concerned if such weight gains could hurt my pregnancy in third trimester or during delivery.

She doesn't sound like much of an obgyn if she doesn't know that placental growth and amniotic fluid actually weighs something.

The weight gain in second trimester may just make your OBGYN anxious for you on Gestational Diabetes if she thinks your gain is due to unhealthy choices. Steep raises are unhealthy whether you’re in a healthy BMI or not. But likely by the time you are in third trimester and the baby is squashing all your internal organs, you will gain little! 😂
You can still develop GD in third trimester, and you will be uncomfortable if you gain heavily in second trimester, but otherwise you will be fine.

I’m 5’9” and 36w, I gained 9kgs in total so far and have stayed level since about 26w. My pre-preg BMI was 24 also. I have been uncomfortable but not increased in size really.

Your maths has confused me (not hard!), are you 59kgs at 20w from 53kgs before preg? (6kg gain total) Or did you gain 12kgs up to 20w?

I'm 20 weeks and also 5" 2. I've gained 9 pounds so far and my BMI before was 22. I dont think it sounds excessive

@devilishly good,
when I first visited the obgyn for my pregnancy confirmation ,
my weight was 53.4 kilos
then at 12 weeks my weight was 56.4 kilos (thats what alarmed her , she said how come I gained 3 kilos in 6 weeks)
now I am 20 weeks and I am 59 kilos (give or take half a kilo)

I hope I am making sense now

@AutumnCrow ,
I too and my husband are beginning to feel concerned if she's the right pick for obgyn . The obgyn in the next room is far more known and caters high-risk pregnancies which speak volumes about her talent.
I just looked up my obgyn casually on social media and I found she was also a part of teaching faculty LOL. that explained why she is so talkative.
Jokes apart, I don't mind continuing with her as long as she treats me right . I hope so . I have no other way to assess her :/

@devilishlygood yes I was approx 53 kilos before pregnancy and am 59 now . I think by end of my 9 months I will be 63 ??
I just looked up and google apparently shows 10 kilos is pretty normal weight gain during pregnancy .?

We don't really get weighed much in pregnancy in the UK. I gather you are in some other country that weighs you at every appointment. Stressful!

givememarmite · 07/10/2019 17:27

I am also in a country that weighs you at every appointment. I started off at 51,4 kg at 7 weeks and last week at 36+2 weighed 62,5 kg. So I've put on 11,1 kg so far. In my last two pregnancies I put on 12-14 kg each time and it was never an issue. They don't actually bother with BMI here though, just go on weight. So by my experience I'd say your weight gain is totally normal but it doesn't sound like you're very happy with the obgyn so I would suggest speaking to the other one if you can and have the option to change still.
