I keep reading very conflicting posts on raspberry leaf tea... both on google and on here.

Do you need to check with your midwife first? Do you just take it? There is really opposite opinions on everything I'm reading!

Check with your midwife as its recommended in late pregnancy normally to bring on labour especially if you're late as its suppose to help soften cervix if you're buying from H&B they will ask you how far along you are before they give it to you.

I drank it at 9 months

gamerchick · 07/10/2019 20:48

It doesn't bring on labour, it's supposed to help with a shorter pushing stage. It's fine to take, it's not a magic bullet.

mistermagpie · 07/10/2019 20:53

I've bought it from Holland & Barratt loads of times (three pregnancies) and never once been asked that!

I drank it from about 32 weeks in my last two pregnancies, started with a cup a day and built up. I did have very quick and straightforward labours (was 10cm dilated within an hour both times) but I'll never know if the tea had anything to do with it.

partysong · 07/10/2019 20:56

Well I drank it from 37 weeks and never dilated at all (c section after 5 days of induction) so it doesn't seem like it's always effective

@mistermagpie really?I was flat out refused if I wasnt close to due date think they've had problems with ladies in past and she aswell as my midwife at time told me to drink it to bring onset of labour-Maybe they were fibbingWinkdidn't work for me anyways Grin x

PixieDustt · 07/10/2019 23:00

From what I heard you're not meant to drink it if you're over due

I've just read this thread out of interest!

I found this article which quotes studies and explains things well - hope it's useful

Both my pregnancies I have drunk it from 32 weeks, you build up one cup a day to maybe four or five. It's supposed to make the pushing stage shorter and soften your cervix etc. Also helps to prevent tears I think it works I had both mine fine very short labours and maximum 4 pushes each time, no tears hopefully the third will be the same
