I was prescribed these at 6 weeks (with baby no. 2) and have come to rely on them in week 8 as my nausea (rather than vomiting) is absolutely debilitating, I'm bedridden if I don't take them. The prescribing GP said they aren't licensed for use in pregnancy as there haven't been any clinical trials including pregnant women so we don't know for sure they are safe but 1,000s of women take them and we have no reason to suspect they're not safe. I'm still worried... Anyone else taking these and not worried/ worried too?

They never do drug trials on pregnant women so there is very little that is lisenced. Having said that this has been used by thousands of women with no ill effects ( there is a reporting system in place to pick up on issues with any drugs). I took them from week 6 til about 16 weeks through 2 pregnancies and both kids are healthy. ( Now 8 and 3)

There are minimal drugs licensed for pregnancy. They can’t morally test on pregnant women so they can’t technically say they are safe. But they can look evidentially and see that over x number of years there are no reports of any issues from a drug being taken during pregnancies.

I’m on 2x really strong anti-sickness meds for Hyperemesis. I’ve read reams of evidential research into anti-sickness drugs and the vast majority have been taken safely for 10+ years. Doctors are becoming a lot more aware and open to the use of medication for sickness thankfully! So glad you’ve found one that works well for you!

I've been taking promethazine since week 6 as like you I was completely bed bound and unable to eat due to nausea. I was able to start cutting down around week 11 but now back on the full dose at week 13. I try not to worry and am glad I can at least eat and nourish my baby and body. I felt like death before and being housebound for 4 weeks straight was terrible for my mental health. I believe the benefits outweigh and risk.
Hope you feel better soon x

@janey15 thank you, yes I am beginning to wonder if avoiding a tiny/ unknown risk is worth putting up with only being able to eat dry crackers!

@bol87 that's reassuring I'm sure you're right, I saw another GP today and she didn't seem the least bit concerned... Xx
