Hello,

I am approx 8 weeks pregnant with my first and in the last few days my nausea has lifted and I find myself super hungry all the time.

Pre pregnancy, I was used to only eating approx 1200 calories a day so I knew I would have to eat more but I want to maintain a healthy diet and I'm looking for recommendations so that I dont pack on too much excess weight.

I have a current aversion to fruit, yoghurt, chocolate, sweets, cake, coffee or anything particularly sweet.

I am craving fridge food like eggs, chicken, cheese, sausage rolls, pork pies etc

Any tips and anyone have this happen to them?

I cant keep eating pork pies and cheese!

Eat what you feel like eating. Your body is craving it for a reason. It sounds like you might be someone who weighs themselves fairly often. Don't worry about the odd few pounds here and there at this point - bloating/constipation/water retention can make it look like you've gained more than you really have.

This can be quite handy if you want to check you're in the right ball park.

Funny, I’m enjoying pork pies! Normally I never eat them!

I eat 100% peanut butter on crackers a lot, very into cubes of cheese (not unhealthy, baby & you need more calcium than normal & especially if you are off yoghurt etc). I’ve got major food aversions but people suggest whole nuts to be quite filling, hard boiled eggs, avocado on toast.. I cut apple into slices and nibble those, takes me longer to eat then just chomping on one. Banana is a great snack, energy & full of potassium.

Last pregnancy, I cooked batches of tuna pasta with veg & Mexican quinoa. I’d then take small pots of both as an afternoon snack! Felt healthier than a bag of crisps from the vending machine!

Also recommend egg sandwiches on wholemeal for lunch, used to really fill me up for a little while!

Make a fridge chicken. Just roast a whole chicken and leave it in the fridge for snacking on whenever you want. Not too rich but full of protein. That's what I make for my teens as a snack when they have growth spurts.
How about nuts? Lighty roasted but unsalted cashews, almonds, pecans.
Good quality ham rolled up with slices of cheddar, gouda or port salut cheese?

My dr recommended high protein snacks to keep me full for longer and help with the nausea. I'm vegetarian so snack suggestions seem to be a bit more limited, especially as I've completely gone off eggs! I've really been enjoying apple slices with crunchy peanut butter - I've treated myself to the Whole Earth organic one 😉 and also don't seem to be able to get enough cheese! When my sickness was terrible I was living off plain digestive biscuits and salt and vinegar crisps so anything is really an improvement! X

Boil a load of eggs, have Babybels for on the go snacks, little packs of cocktail sausages, etc. I was really similar! I also had loads of bags of salt and vinegar snack a jacks in as I just wanted the salt at times but they are low calorie. As others have said, eat whatever you’re craving at the moment - your body is telling you what it needs!

Thanks for all the suggestions.

I like the idea of taking small tubs of pasta and quinoa and salt and vinegar snack a jacks too.

I am semi wondering whether part of it is office boredom too. I'm used to spending my working day out and about in a moderately physical job but now I'm stuck behind a desk getting bored due to health and safety

If you're not piling the weight on everywhere and are eating 3 reasonable meals then have what you like to get through.

Ive loved toast all the way through my pregnancy.

@Tableclothing thanks so much for sharing that link! I’ve been worrying that I was putting on too much weight as my diet has been terrible, but it shows I’m within the right range.

OP I’ve eaten lots of toast, nuts, pasta with tuna, pitta & hummus, crackers - basically very plain and carb focused stuff. I agree with other posters not to worry too much. Just make sure you take your multivitamins to ensure you’ve had all the right nutrients.
