Infant Observation

Hi Everyone,
my husband has just started a course involving child development and he is looking for a baby to observe. He's what he says:

I am studying child development and one of the requirements of the course is that I observe a baby in his/her home environment from as close to birth as possible for the next two years. I know that this sounds a bit odd but it is perfectly normal practice in these sorts of courses concerned with child development. This literally involves me sitting in the home and watching what the baby does. Obviously, I will provide a letter from my university and a DBS check to reassure parents that I am safe to have in their home. Their identity would always be protected in any research written work. This is basically a research project. So, if anyone knows of anyone who is going to have a baby soon or who has just had one in either the Chigwell or the Maldon area in the UK, I would very much appreciate an introduction if you think this could interest the parents. It is important that I don't know them personally. It is ultimately a good thing for our understanding of how we all grow and develop from birth and will hopefully make me a better teacher, parent and foster carer. Let me know if you can help out. Many thanks.

Let me know if anyone can help. Thanks.

Totally normal my friend had to do it for a therapy course, but probably better to ask locally.

My first was the subject of an infant observation. I felt it was a worthwhile use of my time.
I'm unsure why the Ops husband couldn't sign up to mumsnet and post for himself though?

It's a common thing in therapy training.
A common way to find a baby to observe is via a GP/Health visitor/Midwife

Thanks for all this, it's all useful.

He just felt unsure a this is ' mumsnet' and was recommended by a female fellow student... And I just wanted to help, I guess!
