SPD?

Think I’ve got SPD😫 for past few days I’ve been in agony, down insides of my thighs, pubic bone area, hips and back. I’ve started to walk with a waddle because it’s painful when I walk, but strangely so much worse at night when I’m laid down. Tried a pillow between my legs and doesn't work for me. Even just turning over in bed is agonising, and getting up for toilet every hour is such a struggle😢 Absolutely dreading fri-mon, work in retail and on my feet for 7.5 hours each day. Has anyone got any advise on how to ease it? I’m only 32 weeks, does it just get worse and worse?

I've got SPD and it does sound like that's what it is. I'm sorry this is happening to you, it's horrible. I contacted my community midwife who said to contact the delivery suite as I'm so close to giving birth (I was 37+5 when I got so bad I needed help), they gave me the number for the obstetric physio department and I was in for physio a few days later. Obviously your experience may vary as your care providers may have different procedures for dealing with it, but definitely reach out for help. There is help out there.

I really hope things improve for you soon

Yeah it gets worse, but you've done alright if it's only now starting!

Have a look on the nhs website, there are some good tips on there. Also see if you can get a physio referral (either via your midwife or self-referral depending on your area). They normally sort appointments quite quickly for women's health physio.

Sounds like SPD. Speak to your midwife they can get you a fast track physio appointment.

I've also got sciatica. Just 34 weeks and couldn't face 6 more weeks crying several times a day from pain so found a private chiropractor. First session yesterday and I feel like a new women! Back in Friday for another session

And just from personal experience, I find sleeping on a folded duvet helps (plus pillows between my legs). Think it just helps keep everything aligned. Some people also recommend silk pyjamas so you can slide to turn a bit more easily. I find turning less painful if I kind of push from my pelvis rather than try to lead with my knees if that makes any sense..?

Is there the possibility of sitting down when you need to in work?

Yep, definitely sounds like SPD and I echo all the previous recommendations to get a physio referral. They will be able to check if there’s anything out of alignment and sort it out (I hobbled into my appointment pretty much in tears and 20 minutes later walked out briskly feeling like she’d performed some sort of miracle!!). They will also give you exercises to help alleviate any ongoing issues. My SPD is so much better now and doesn’t seem to be worsening again (I’m 31+5 and had physio at 29 weeks) but I have an open referral to go back to the physio at any point if I need it again. Hopefully you can get a fast referral and find some relief.

I was diagnosed with this at 31 weeks by my GP. She has sent me a referral for physio, so currently waiting to recieve this (I am 32 weeks now).
My gp also signed me off work, which isn't ideal but like you I work in a physically demanding job and it is just getting worse. Evenings are the worst for me also and night times. I find if I have a full bladder too that it adds even more pressure.

I have found that not being on my feet so much with work, and carrying/lifting that the pain has eased off from what it was but if I have a busy day out ect then it comes back with revenge (4 hours out walking/shopping left me in agony the next day) so it is best to rest up when you can.

I have this. Have been referred for physio (am 26 weeks) and might be seen before the birth....Hmm

For me, walking is easier than standing, but a “normal” level of walking for me leaves me in agony by the evening. Equally, sitting for prolonged periods doesn’t help so I have to keep moving around every 30 minutes or so at work.

Sleeping with a pillow between my legs does help, as does rolling onto my side, then pushing up with my arms when getting out of bed.

But the only thing that has helped so far is seeing an osteopath (took a couple of days to feel the benefits) and resting afterwards. Would really recommend an osteopath!
