Maternity clothes

Help needed!

I can't find any shops that sell maternity wear and am hoping someone has some inspiration for me!

I am an awkward shape (always have been) for clothes and it's worse now as I've long skinny legs and a sticking out bump! So most maternity trousers I've tried fall down. I need something thicker than leggings for work (I work outdoors mostly) and cost effective as can't wear forever Wink but hate online shopping as more goes back than stays

My nearest towns are Exeter and Barnstaple if anyone else knows which shops may have something here! (I can also get to the Mall Bristol if they have anything)

Thanks

Hi OP, I've found you mostly have to order maternity wear online as shops don't tend to stock much / any. Mothercare often has a few bits in though. With the trouser issue - I'm similar and find trousers hard to keep up as I have slimmer legs and bum - over the bump tends to be a more successfu-l style for me or can you still do up normal trousers under your bump (maybe size up if you think you do need more room - you might find it works?). I'm 37weeks now and still wearing my normal pants and pj bottoms, just under my frankly enormous bump! Or I wear a lot of dresses/smock tops over leggings but I guess that's not too practical for you if you work outside.

Unfortunately not many shops stock a good range of maternity wear, so online is really your best bet!

Jojo always stock maternity wear, but it's at the upper end of the price scale. Some bigger H&M stores tend to have a maternity section.

Online ASOS, H&M are good and offer free delivery and returns (so nothing lost). Or ASDA if you live close enough to a store to do click and collect for free. If you have Amazon Prime then you can use Amazon Wardrobe to try before you buy!

eBay or FB market place can be good for cheap bundles.

I’ve found H&M really good for over-bump trousers. Unlike other brands where they seem to make the legs and bum big as well, the H&M ones seem true to your pre-pregnancy size.

I struggled myself today to find a good selection. Went to Liverpool so a lot of the stores are large and was such a little amount to choose from. I liked new looks stuff the best.

I actually found the only place that had a reasonable selection in store was peacocks. They had workwear and comfy stuff at good prices. Ours isn't even a particularly big peacocks but certainly beat the rest in town.
Good luck!

I'm also a stick leg person! I'd second h&m (they also do some under bump jeans which are good) and also check out new look. Their jeans aren't great but if you need a dress I found they were one of the best places.

I always struggled with maternity clothes and needed outdoor clothes to, I found some really nice stretchy jegging/jeans from asda they weren't maternity but have a stretchy band and sit under the bump I found them really good and still use them now I've had the baby, I did have to wear longer tops incase they rolled down a little to far. Dungarees are also amazing jojo ones are good equally I went to Primark and sized up on there ones as they have buttons on the side that I left undone I never had huge bumps tho so you may not get away with non maternity dungarees.
Mainly I loved/still love jogging bottoms, I had a fairly nice pair that I could wear in front of people to the shops/school run and not be embarrassed also had some super comfy ones that I would wear if I didn't have to go out in public, the animals never seemed to mind 😂

New look also have a good range in store which is often very cheap in the sale. Next is also of good quality but is only available online as well as ASOS.

I have same isssue! I like to try on in store but none have any in store. I’m currently pregnant with baby number 4. I recently bought a pair of Spanx Mama jeansish, they’re great, the over belly band actually stays up!! They are expensive but may be worth it if you wear every day. Dungarees are a good choice too, those will eliminate the falling down saggy bum look lol. Seraphine is good too, they have an outlet section. I recently bought from there for half price. I’ve found the cheaper brands of jeans and trousers (ASOS, H&M etc) to be ill fitting and never last a whole pregnancy due to sagging and stretching, so I highly recommend spending as much as you can afford on bottoms and going cheap on the rest. Don’t forget you’ll use your maternity bottoms post partum for 6-8 weeks at least, also if you choose to breastfeed they’ll cover your tum when you open your top. Take a look on eBay too, great pre-loved bargains.

Thanks all for your replies. I'll get back online!

Didn't know I could use amazon prime for that as well (my OH jokes I'm having affairs with their delivery drivers I order so much from them Grin)

Thanks

If you are slim then just upsize. I often find that a lot easier and cheaper than going for maternity options.

meccacos2 · 03/10/2019 18:16

I have shopped on seraphine.com and ripematernity.com and ASOS and the iconic.

I have found the range & quality on seraphine.com to be the best.

Most H&M and New Looks have little sections in store for maternity clothes. Recently purchased some leggings from h&m only £9.99 and according to everyone I know who's had babies I will be living in them soon! Hope you find some decent bits x
