Can hcg be too high?!

Ok so here goes my next panic post...

Can hcg levels be too high? I had mine tested privately at 5+6 and hcg was 89854!!! I am now worried (thanks to google) that I have a molar pregnancy. I know it’s rare but the rare, weird shit happens to me. Dd1 died from a rare (no other known cases in the world type rare), still undiagnosed genetic condition so I am super worried about everything related to this pregnancy.

I can’t get in to see my GP until next week but have booked a private scan for Friday.
Anyone had anything similar and things worked out ok?

At 6+1 mine was around 62000 which i was worried was really high. Mine was due to the fact that it is twins. I am now 19weeks with identical twin girls.

Any chance you could be further along than you think?

I had a molar pregnancy in 2015 and my levels never got very high to be honest. I think the highest levels before I had a miscarriage was about 8000. I'm thinking it's more likely to be a twin pregnancy.

Definitely don’t have my dates wrong. I was tracking ovulation due to having cysts and not ovulating the previous cycles so wanted to see if my body had got back to normal.
No history of multiples at all in the family, although I guess that would be preferable to a molar pregnancy.
Thanks for the reassurance, will report back after the scan.

I dont have any history of multiples either.

Let us know how you get on. Fingers crossed for you!

So....I had some light bleeding today so brought Friday’s scan forward to today.
You were both right....there are two little babies in there! I went in expecting to be told I was miscarrying.....so this is a big shock.

I saw the thread title and came on to say that I had high hgc and worried about a molar pregnancy; it turned out that there was an extra one in there, but I see that you've already found out that can happen Grin. Congratulations and good luck!

Holpop19 · 02/10/2019 19:59

Wow that's awesome news. How exciting, feel quite chuffed that i predicted correctly too. Congrats!!

Thank you all. It is a lot to get my head around!
I am dreading another nicu stay but suppose I need to be realistic. For now I am going to be positive that everything looks good!

Congratulations. Not related to HCG levels but also had a bleed about 6 weeks, thought i was miscarrying but turned out to be twins - so could relate to your post.

Wishing you a happy, healthy pregnancy.

Robs20 · 02/10/2019 20:26

@Africa2go the sonographer said it is very normal in twin pregnancy...I had no idea. But thank you, it is reassuring to hear you had the same.

Aww congratulations! Glad it was good news. Welcome to the twin mum club!

Robs20 · 03/10/2019 09:06

Don’t want to completely take over the thread with a different topic, but seeing as we have lots of twin mums on here...
Any recommendations or tips?! I still have lots of time to prepare and don’t plan to buy anything until the babies are born and I know they will come home...but...
Any tips on coping with a twin pregnancy? Coping with twin babies? Any absolute must-haves or dos?
Thank you!

This is my first pregnancy so not sure how it differs from a singleton pregnancy and i am only 19weeks.
Due to the high hormone levels i had bad morning sickness in the first 8 weeks. I still feel tired a lot and bump gets big quickly. I have only just started feeling them both kick and it is amazing!

Be prepared for a lot of appointments. You will be consultant led. My twins are identical so i am scanned every 2week from 18 to 24weeks. If you are having non identicals then i think scans are very 4weeks.

Having twins doesnt rule a natural birth if its what you want to have.

Identicals are delivered by 36weeks and non-identical i think 37weeks although again this cannot be forced and if you want to wait and go into labour naturally then you would just be monitored daily.

The only thing i know about when they are here is that everyone recommends a routine. Twins are apparently good at settling each other so two babies doesnt necessarily mean chaos.

Just relax as much as possible and enjoy the amazing ride!

Africa2go · 03/10/2019 14:23

I think it very much depends. I wasnt scanned every 4 weeks (non-ID).

I would say to buy (or at least order) the basics after your 20 week scan. Twins have a habit of turning up early. Cot/s, pram, a few clothes, nappies etc.

Eat properly, sleep properly, be sensible. You're looking after 3 people!

Fill the freezer, start to accept offers of help. Cleaner / online shopping etc subject to budget.

As for a routine - hmmmm. Depends on you / your babies. Going into the early days of twin parenting thinking you must have (and stick to) a routine sounds like enormous pressure to me. I think you just had to muddle your way through the early chaos doing what feels right. If you're breastfeeding especially its just one long stretch of feeding, changing nappies and broken sleep. I think you have to be open minded and re-assess after the first few weeks.
