Vagina post birth

I gave birth 3 weeks ago and had 3 tears, 2 on the inner labia and 1 on the perineum, that were stitched up.

The stitches and tears have not given me any issues and seem to be healing well.

However, most days my vagina feels achey, and I have noticed when washing that part my of vagina is quite different to before birth. Everything seems to have gone back to normal, as in no swelling or anything, but there is something at the entrance to my vagina that was not there before but now definitely is. It feels quite rough & spongey, and I’m sure this part was more internal and higher up before. It’s hardly dangling out now, but I can easily feel it with my finger without inserting the finger in. I’m worried that something that’s meant to be more on the inside is now positioned lower at the entrance Confused

Also sorry if this is not the right topic to post, wasn’t sure which was more relevant!

I've never had a vaginal birth...but what your describing sounds like what I have during this pregnancy!...My vagina hole feels full and achey...And I have that spongey muscle type thing at the entrance...I was worried I was having a prolapse so went to the doctors and she just said it's nothing to worry about it's just the vaginal wall relaxing with the pregnancy hormones and pressure of the baby ect...And it should go back.Your still so freshly post birth!I wouldnt worry. But get checked if it feels too bad.x

I had a weird feeling spongey but textured like you say... it was just the skin healing up (i also had stitches) and a few months on it just felt a little bumpy but has gone now!

Kegels!!!!

Please see your gp and get checked if you have concerns.

Mine is still getting better after 6 months. I got checked after 3 and was reassured it's a) normal and b) will get better. But keep up with your pelvic floor exercises. I noticed a difference when I upped the anty with them!

OP I had the EXACT same 'injuries' as you following birth. My vagina also felt so odd for about two months after giving birth. There was a fullness at the entrance and I too felt something when showering that I didn't think should be there. I was planning to see my GP to check all was ok but after some time it just seemed less obvious and then seemed to pass. I don't really know OP! I'd definitely recommend keeping going with your pelvic floor exercises though and see your GP if the feeling doesn't ease off over the next few weeks

It's really normal for things to feel (and look!) different down there for quite a while. I had an episiotomy for my first birth, so slightly different, but just a graze for my second and things were still a bit tender and achey for a while, especially if I had been standing or walking for a long time.

3 weeks is very very early days so don't worry too much.

Im on my 6th does take months to go back to feeling normal again.are u still seeing your midwife or health visitor? Get advice from them but does seem normal x

ReadytoPop6 · 30/09/2019 21:11

Thanks for the responses. I’ll mention it to my GP at the 6 week check and in the mean time I’ll make an effort with the pelvic floor exercises, I’ve been lazy with these and even when I have bothered I’m not convinced I’m doing them correctly.

Try to get into the habit of doing them while sitting feeding your baby Smile

I had this with my first then gave birth to my second 10 months later it disappeared within 7 months I’d say with nothing but nature taking it mrs course hang in there it’s will return to normal

Veronica560 · 01/10/2019 07:14

As with the pelvic floor exercises you just need to squeeze like you holding in a wee try and hold on for 10 secs then release and repeat up to about 10 reps and try not to hold your breath or tighten thigh stomach or bum muscle

Slight anterior prolapse, possibly. I have a urethrocele and it's like a walnut sitting at the entrance, rough and spongy and i can push it back but it drops. You may have a slight bladder bulge if you feel inside higher up when you have a full bladder. If that's all that you have and symptoms minimal, kegel your life away and look at something like hab-it dvd. Unless you have any other issues, it's likely to improve. X
