Nervous about being induced

I'm due on Wednesday, however because I didn't find out I was pregnant until I was 17 weeks and my baby is measuring above the growth chart, my doctor and midwife have agreed to induce me. I've already got 2 DD and my labour's were pretty quick with those 2. I went over with both of my girls first was 41 and second was 40+3. With this one being a boy, and being so big I was hoping I'd go into labour naturally and possibly earlier.
I've had a sweep (didn't work) however was informed I was 2cm dilated. My mucus plug had been coming away for about 2 weeks. I'm just so nervous about being induced as you hear all these horrific stories. Can anybody give me any advice of how to try and get this labour going? Or any advice with being induced? Sad

I don't think there's much you can do to get labour started without being induced. Baby will come when he wants to. If your first 2 labours were quick then this time is likely to be the same. I was induced with DD at 41+6, in labour for 4 hours, she was 7lb 5oz. Was pretty straightforward and not too traumatic. I was booked in to be induced on my due date with DS as he was measuring above the 95th percentile, though he came on his own 3 days early. I was in labour with him for about 5 hours. He was 9lb 6oz and he was much easier to give birth to. Try not to worry, I was scared when I found out DS was big and read loads of women saying they also thought their bigger babies were easier to give birth to. Good luck when the time comes!

I have a feeling you'll go into spontaneous labour and have no need of inducement. I hope so, good luck.

@RainbowUnicorn1 my second was 9lb 5oz and she was easier too! I'm just in a lot of pain with PGP at the moment, so I just want it all over with Grin

@Rachelover60 I hope so hun!

I had two fanatically positive inductions! There are a lot of horror stories around but honestly for me it was great. I'm hoping they'll agree to induction this time because the idea of spontaneous labour scares me more.

With DS1 I was 42 weeks so once I had the pessary things kick started very quickly. Down in delivery very soon after but it slowed down from there so had the drip. Had epidural because I'm a wimp and it hurt but I once that was in it was lovely! Had great midwives looking after me and had a complication free non intervention birth. Midwives guides me through it all

DS2 induced at 38 weeks due to bleeds, reduced movement and he'd stopped growing. As my body wasn't ready yet took a few days and needed my waters breaking / the drip but once that happened it was all very fast! Had epidural again but I progressed a lot faster than expected. 4-10 Cm in 20/30 mins so it had fully taken affect. I could feel the need to push pressure so used gas and air as well. Within 6 mins DS2 was born.

Again fantastic midwives so supportive and talked me through it all. No interventions or damage to me again

I was induced with my first at 40+10.
Had the pessary at 8am and was 1cm dilated but my cervix was still very thick. Bounced on a birthing ball and walked round the outside of the hospital all day! By 6pm my waters had broken and mild contractions had started. Was rushed to the labour suite due to meconium liquor at 7pm. The monitor I was on didn't pick up my contractions properly and they were worried about the meconium liquor so I was put on the induction drip at 10pm to make my contractions more regular. At that point I was 2cm dilated. I ended up having an epidural as the drip made the contractions very, very intense, the epidural made it so much more bearable. My baby was born at 5:13am the next morning, the drip definitely sped things up, the midwife wasn't expecting me to have given birth until at least lunchtime!

I was really nervous about being induced but the pessary part was fine, wouldn't have even known it was there! I was also amazed how quickly it worked as it wasn't looking good when they put it in with my thick cervix, thought I was going to be there for days! The drip wasn't great but it was quick! Some of the pain may have been a result of me being stuck in bed because of the monitor due to the meconium liquor, tried a birthing ball but they couldn't get the baby's heart rate properly so I had to stay still so that probably didn't help.

Good luck, hope it all goes well for you and your little one!
