How many clothes for baby?

So I'm pregnant with DC1, and MIL is very excitedly buying clothes (only DGC). She must be buying on average an outfit a day. She is sensibly buying them in different sizes from 0-3 months to 9-12 months, but how many clothes are too many??

We had loads in a huge range and frankly we had too many 🤦🏻‍♀️

Ds was far too big for tiny baby, fit newborn for maybe a week or two (at a push, I squeezed him into some of my favourite outfits and he looked like the hulk 😳). He then was in 0-3 until 12 weeks? So basically don't go too crazy because you don't know what you'll need till they are here if that makes sense? I also shot my self in the foot buying sizes for seasons (he has Christmas stuff that he definitely won't fit by the time it comes 🤦🏻‍♀️)

It's easy to get excited isn't it 😂 my mil was like yours...she even bought him a slice when I was 3 months pregnant!

If it's outfits I would say don't bother with many at all in the smaller sizes. They can be very fiddly and not what you need when you could be doing several changes a day. Vest and babygrows would be more useful and I would say 10 vests and 20 babygrows in each size is more than plenty if you wash every couple of days.

Agree that vests and babygrows are most relevant when they're small. DD was a refluxy baby and went through 8 clothes changes on her worst day, so allowing for things being in the wash, I'd say 15-20 is about right for each size for the first few months.

Baby grows are your best friend for the first 3 months min! I think I had about I had a reflux windy one so had about 15 baby grows it would take him one day and one night to get through them all! I washed every day 😂

Outfits are cute but let others buy those for you as your little grows you will use those more but literally we went out in baby grows for the first 3 months occasional outfit wearing literally to please the person who brought it provided he didn’t throw up in it before we got out the door 🚪

Saying that my friends kid would do 1 outfit a day from day one.

Now at 10 months I would want about 6-7 outfits per age
One for the baby bag that stays packed until needed , option of 1 spare at home and that way you can wash every other day.

Big congratulations!

I brought in a gazillion baby gros and vests, and not enough tops in case they got wet too!! Congratulations!!!🎉

I don't think you can have too many. Some days my kids went through 4 or 5 outfits/babygros. If she's happy buying, I'd just be very grateful. I would stick to mainly vests and babygros for the first couple of months as they are just so much easier to get them in and out of.

I bought loads of secondhand bundles and had too many - it actually got stressful as different brands size differently and it all seemed to need a lot of sorting!

Agree outfits are cute but impractical, stick with babygros.

Just be aware your baby's growth rate may not be linear.

So my DD was in newborn for about 6 weeks, then in 0-3 until 3 months. Followed 3-6 months for 3 weeks then in 6-9 until 7 months....

The 3-6 months items were a mainly presents and we realised she was growing out of them so we had to change her a few times a day just to take pics. She wasn't pleased.

You definitely want lots of vests regardless of the baby's age but outfits on babies under 3 months are hard work especially those where the buttons are in stupid places.
