Pelvic floor exercises - how often and do they work?

As above really! I just remembered tonight that I’m meant to be doing them. How often do you do yours and do you find it makes any difference to anything?

I do my pelvic floor muscles at least once daily and have never had a problem with urine leakage during or after pregnancy, and had a really fast and effective pushing stage with my daughter. I of course can't say for sure it's all down to doing the exercises, but I'm sure it certainly helps

You should be doing them 3 times a day, every day, whether pregnant or not.

They work as long as you do them correctly. However labour and birth can cause damage to the pelvic floor that cannot be prevented by pelvic floor exercises.

Get the Squeezy app. Reminders on your phone three times a day. I ignore them 2/3 times but it’s still more than I was doing before.

Thanks. I’m nine weeks pregnant and I’ve never done them before. I hope I’ve started early enough!

I still don't know HOW

Yes! So important. The squeezy app is good. As a MW I usually recommend that you link it to something you do during the day, like everytime you brush your teeth, when sat in traffic/traffic lights, when eating a meal etc. to try and remind you, it become habit quick enough!

Can't stress how much a good pelvic floor will help you with pregnancy, birth and postnatally, you'll be recovering from a much better point than you'd be doing if you don't do any (though you will absolutely not feel like that when you first do them postnatally but it does get better!)

Pelvic floor exercises work, follow gusset grippers on insta, Twitter or facebook and she will explain really simply how and when to do them.

PopcornAndWine · 28/09/2019 22:27

Squeezy is great, doubt I would have done them
only for that. Pretty straightforward pushing & no leakage etc so far 🤞

Love this

I've just started doing them so no idea if they actually work or how long it takes, but there is a free app called 'tat' that is helpful, tells you how to do them, how long to do them for and how many times then it builds you up to do more and for longer lengths.

I'm 64, 2 x vaginal birth over 40 years ago.

I did and still do them as and when I remember. I'm lucky and am still continent most of the time.

Remember they don't only help with continence but with your and your partner's sexual experience. And from that point of view I wish I had done better.

Any is better than none
