Does tiredness effect labour?

So in your opinion does being knackered effect labour? Ds still not sleeping through the night and I'm up every hour to pee and being uncomfy. NHS website says it dosent but others say it does.

Oh god I was thinking this yesterday, I've had two children already but I'm 100% sure I wasn't this tired last time round. I think though when you do start going in to labour you feel more weaker so you tend to sleep for a whilst longer but don't quote me on it. And if you don't the adrenaline will keep you going anyway Grin

Hopeing so 😊 ds is very clingy so I know I'm just gonna be worried how hes getting on 😂 would like another fast labour like last time.

I would say it does. I was up for 26 hours when it came time for me to push and I was so tired, felt like giving up but I pushed through. My MIL looked after my son for a few hours when I got home as I needed sleep.

Everafter1 · 28/09/2019 15:39

Statistically...allegedly. If the mum to be has less than 6.5 hours of sleep a night, the labours can be longer & have a higher chance of requiring intervention.
I'm banking on being one the ones who it doesn't happen to or hoping the odd nap once in a blue moon will bump up my hours 😂

NotSoThinLizzy · 28/09/2019 15:53

Oh dear. Gonna tell OH that I'm now taking mandatory naps when he gets home from work 😂

@NotSoThinLizzy do it! I've been having daily naps now for the last few weeks and I'm only 26 weeks

NotSoThinLizzy · 28/09/2019 16:55

I've got 5 weeks left to catch up on 2 years missed sleep 😂

Oh my god Grin I swear once you have a baby though sleep just becomes a distant memory 😭

NotSoThinLizzy · 28/09/2019 18:01

I can function quite happily on about 5 hours a night so not too bad

Defo affected me! Was on induction ward for 5 days, they came for me at 2am after I'd not slept a wink and I really struggled and was exhausted. Adrenaline got me through abit but then I was absolutely knackered and had an emcs. X

Em39ma · 28/09/2019 19:45

Oh gosh don’t tell me this.
This my first, but haven’t slept for more than 3 hours a night for about 6 weeks because of hip and pelvic pain.
I’m being induced on Wednesday.

NotSoThinLizzy · 28/09/2019 19:49

Oh dear I hope it's not true. Good luck for wednesday though 😊

Did you mean to type effect? Tiredness can be a sign labour is near, but it doesn’t directly effect labour, it’s more a possible symptom of upcoming labour if that makes sense (also can just be a symptom you’re exhausted from pregnancy!).

Bol87 · 28/09/2019 19:59

It affected me but not from the lack of sleep in the weeks before hand, just my labour took 3 days, baby was back to back, I had failed epidurals, stalled dilation, induction drugs as my epidural failed .. so I was just shattered by 10cm dilated, both mentally & physically. I pushed for about 45 minutes & then it was like someone flicked a switch and my energy just vanished!

I could have slept for weeks before & I would have been the exactly the same. Labour was what it was! You can’t prepare for how it goes!

delilahbucket · 28/09/2019 20:02

Definitely. I had a ridiculously long labour (started Saturday night, birthed Monday morning). I was so tired come pushing time that it took me forever to get ds out. I did manage without intervention but it took everything I have. I finally broke at 2am the night after having him when he wouldn't settle and I just wandered into the corridor sobbing. A student midwife took him for a few hours for me so I could sleep and I was so grateful to her.

Goodebe · 28/09/2019 20:03

Adrenaline will get you through regardless of how much sleep you’ve had, try not to worry about it as that will be worse than when it actually happens. I have as so tired when I had my second that I dozed between contractions, but it’s not a hideous tiredness more of a zoning out sleepiness when you can.

Tetrus · 28/09/2019 20:06

I think adrenaline and sheer determination gets you through.
