Sweep today! How long did it take before labour?

39+5 today and had a sweep this morning. I was surprised to hear her say I'm 2cm dilated, and baby boys head is so low she could touch it. She said she could pop my waters he's that low (which I presume is good?) She said she gave me a really good sweep. My cervix is still a little firm but she said that will efface out. I've been having on and off pain, and tightenings since this morning, could this be the start?

Anyone else had a sweep and it resulted in labour? How long did it take?

Didn't work for me I am afraid and I had 3 but my cervix was high and hard 🙄 my baby just didn't want out. He came at 42 weeks. I would do it again though (24 weeks preg atm) I do think if baby is ready it will work. Good luck

Such a mixture of outcomes. 40 weeks exactly tomorrow, I've been having on and off period like pains all day today. Lost my plug this morning, so I'm really hoping we are heading in the right direction. I do have another sweep booked in for Friday just incase he hasn't shown up.

Ok so I had mine today and I'll be honest, it was very very painful. And midwife told me I have a high pain threshold. As I said in my last message, the consultant had told me that if it doesn't hurt it hasn't been done effectively. Obviously I'm no medical professional so goodness knows how accurate that is but my midwife proper went for it and I am now 2-3cm dilated. Apparently head is super low so we shall see. If I were you I'd prepare for it to be painful and if it isnt it's a bonus x

Hi ladies!

He is here! I'd say my sweep definitely worked! 48 hours later and my waters broke (on Sunday afternoon) and was 3cm when we got to the hospital, and 5cm's within the hour. 10cm's a few hours after that in the birthing pool like I wanted with nothing but gas and air, pushed for almost 2 hours but baby boy was delivered by emergency c-section after he became stuck. Just happy he's healthy and finally here. 40+1 when he was born.
