Bra drama

Hello.

I'm 20 weeks pregnant with my first and I need some advice. My boobs have got much larger and I'm now uncomfortable in my bras. I wanted to buy nursing bras (to save money so I don't have to buy them again) but a shop assistant at m&s said it's too soon and I'd change more. She recommended a non wired, non- moulded bra. First, they are so ugly and depressing. Secondly I feel that there's no support round my waist so my shoulders and back are suffering from lifting my mahoosive breasts up! The bra I bought was a 34GG Confused and pre pregnancy I was a 32E. Has anyone got any advice or recommendations? Can I just buy a wired one in a larger size or will that become uncomfortable later in pregnancy. Trying to be budget conscious but it's tricky in the bigger sizes, I find.

Thanks in advance.

There was a bra thread recently here. I did get measured & was kind of pressured into getting a wired bra in bravissimo. It was awfully uncomfortable. When your belly expands if it's not a plunge bra it can tilt up to your chest & irritate it.

They told me the same about nursing bra's.

I got non wired comfortable bra's with adjustable straps for support from primark. I went from 34DD to 36G - I was that 9 weeks ago and they've got bigger. The bra's will work for nursing too. They're great got them in a large, my boobs are so heavy now.

@Everafter1 thanks so much for your reply. Will give primark a go!

The ones I got aren't glam but they feel so nice on and sit well under clothes. Plus they're cheap so great for every day.

Hope you get something you like Smile

I'm finding sports bras most comfortable. They have excellent support, they're stretchy and I can kid myself that they're a good investment for when I want to do exercise after the baby arrives. Not glamorous but so comfy.

I measured myself up and bought a maternity bra with underwire from Amazon. Tried some without underwire and they just weren't supportive, and gave me backache like if you wear a sports bra all day. Amazon can be dodgy, but it's also pressure-free. I know I may grow again before breastfeeding, but there was no extra cost so may as well get a bra that doubles. Get what you want - if you have to change again you have to change again. Be comfortable now or it will catch up later!

I was told the same thing about maternity bras... I guess basically your rib cage will continue to grow during pregnancy and then reduce after so if you do buy a maternity bra prior to birth it might not fit after. I've only gone up one size... from 34 B to 36 C so I imagine (hope lol) I'll go to a 34 C after.

However, I finally found a bra I like. £30 for two from M&S

Really comfy, you get 2 I probably wouldn't find anything I like for much cheaper. I hate moulded/padded bras and have rarely spent much less on a bra normally to get one that I liked.

I would go anywhere apart from M&S. If you are comfortable there is no need to get rid of underwires.

I am a 36 back, M&S tried to get me to buy 40 back non wired monstrosities.

Following with interest. I’m 34w2d with my first and have definitely NOT mastered lingerie!

I have two different styles from mothercare. One is a nursing bra style with removable pads, essentially a sports bra. Made of lots of elastic/Lycra so was horrific in the summer...

Other is a moulded wireless maternity bra (no stop down cups) that is quite stiff. Gives better support and shape. But also a load of mannade, non-breathable material, so sweaty tits ahoy!

I did get a nursing bra from Jojo Maman, cotton. Had high hopes. But it felt like a vice, horrific. That just went straight back.

Generally been unsuccessful so try to be braless when I’m at home. But don’t suppose that would help you and your bigguns... I’m only 36DD so I can manage with them banging about loose.

I brought some 2pack non wired bras from matalan. About £8 if my memory serves me correctly. Not pretty but they are comfortable and I will happily bin them when the time comes knowing I haven't remortgaged my house for them.
