Maternity leave - twin pregnancies

Hi ladies

I am just wondering at what date people have taken their maternity leave with a twin pregnancy?

I am nearly 19 weeks and my consultant is keen for me to go off around the 28 week mark but this sounds so early. I am quite big, but not uncomfortable (yet).

I don’t have a long commute (20 mins in the car) and also have the option to work from home as and when needed. Ideally I’d like to work up to 34 weeks but is that really pushing it? (That is of course hoping they don’t come early, before my 37 week deadline!)

Would be really interested to hear other women’s experiences of it and when you went off/how you felt towards the end etc!

Thanks

Yep. I have a friend with identical boys. She won't believe they're ID because she was told they were DCDA and therefore dizygotic - but nobody but her can tell them apart! Not that it particularly matters other than with their own sense of identity I guess. Mine are same sex but most emphatically NOT identical, sometimes I wonder if they're even related Grin

@paddlingwhenIshouldbeworking The 28 week mark I struggle to get my head around at times - consultant has told me a few times that after wk 28 things get very difficult but it’s hard to know what it will be like until it happens!

@Courtney555 Oh god, I’ve never thought of it like that!! 8 limbs...! I hope they give you a better nights sleep tonight!!

@Wishing56 I’m 19+1! They’ve told me 37 weeks at the moment which takes me to Feb 1 I think. Good luck with the pregnancy!

@inwood Yes someone did mention driving (even getting a seatbelt on!!) in the third tri can be - challenging!!

Thanks to all of you for your responses it really is so interesting to hear all the different experiences. I guess with any pregnancy it’s very hard to predict what will happen and how I’ll feel!!

@SinkGirl @SunshineCrocodile Oh wow - I honestly had no idea and was just taking their word for it. I’ll definitely be asking about this next week! I wouldn’t mind either way but would like to be prepared!!

I’m afraid you may not get accurate information when you do ask. With DCDA twins there’s no way to tell without a DNA test, unless of course they’re very different!

My friend is the same - her twin girls are definitely identical but she doesn’t think so!

It does make a difference for us as both of our boys have disabilities, one more so than the other, and knowing if they’re identical or not could give us more clues to what’s going on.

I finished work at 29 weeks. A couple of weeks after that I struggled to get in the car to drive because of the size of my bump. I also had a 15 walk from the train station to work which was hideous even before 29 weeks. Babies didn’t arrive until 38 weeks and both weighed in excess of 6lbs each.
