This will be the 4th time I’ve had a water infection in the 6 months I’ve been pregnant
I’m worried about developing (the baby developing, if that’s possible) a resistance to the anti biotics .
I’ve tried all the advice given, nothing stops it from happening and I’m fed up with it now.
Did this happen to anyone else in pregnancy ? Any advice ?

Yes with both DC. I never had symptoms but whenever I had urine test I was positive. With DC1 they kept giving me antibiotics but with DC2 they were less bothered (different hospital - less good rep than first) and I only had antibiotics once despite a few positive urine tests. Both babies born just fine and no recurring UTI after birth.

Good luck OP

I used to have cystitis until I started incorporating some cranberry juice into my diet.

I don't know if it'll help but I've managed through most of my pregnancy without a single UTI and the last few years since I've been having cranberry juice (the low sugar one)

I don't even like cranberry juice but if you haven't already tried it - it might help as a preventative measure?

I hope this helps, and if not I hope someone else can give you something that works!

All the best

I might start keeping a supply of cranberry juice. I actually quite like it but it’s remembering to drink it

I try to have a glass first thing occasionally, or as soon as I get any kind of 'sensation' that might be the start of a UTI I go and drink some. Hope it helps Smile

I have had recurrent UTIs all my life (6 a year or so) and throughout my pregnancy only had one right at the start.

As boring as it sounds, you need to be sure you drink at least 2.5 litres of Water a day. This was my craving so super easy for me to do so.

Also, what laundry detergent do you use? I switched to non bio as my skin was awful and since doing so havent had a UTI. don't use soaps down there, and always wipe front to back.

Hoping it clears up for you OP. X

With my first I suffered SO badly from UTI and thrush.
I would literally be in ago ru every other week! It's absolutely normal and harmless to the baby! Some women just suffer and some don't... i was referred to the hospital and they really reassured me, why don't you see if you can get a bit more support with it too? Hope you feel better soon 💗

Comps83 · 25/09/2019 12:30

@november90 see this is what I’m confused about . I’ve had one doctor tell me it’s dangerous and gave me anti biotics straight away and another tell me its not and tried to put me off and said to just come back if it got worse
I’d really like to avoid a 4th course of anti biotics if possible. I’m spending my day off today at home hammering the water in the hope it will help but nothing I’ve tried in the past has got rid of it.
I think we will just have to not have sex for the rest of the pregnancy. Even with both of us straight out of the shower, me going to the toilet before and after and me being a prolific drinker of water staves it off.

You might be retaining urine which is a common cause of uti in pregnancy as its harder to empty your bladder fully with baby sitting on it! I suffered with utis lots before I got pregnant but have managed to not have one so far yet (28 weeks) by following some advice my midwife gave me. Obviously do all the things recommended above re drinking lots of water, don't use soap down there, don't wear thongs / non cotton underwear etc but also rock back and forward on the loo when you've finished a wee to make sure you get all the last little drips out. It's old urine in the bladder which often causes the irritation. Good luck!

@Comps83 to be honest I never found the gp helpful, and like you I had a lot of mixed signals! One once told me I'd have to deal with symptoms and only come back if I was bleeding! I was so upset!! Ask your midwife if you can be referred to a consultant because that's what mine did and he was the only person who was able to help me!
He reassured me 100%! He told me that some one get cystitis with and without an infection and that's why it feels constant! Some women have a cold rants small does of antibiotics throughout there pregnancies to help avoid and treat an infection. You have options :) just try and get away from the gp!

Omg my spelling 🙈 **some women have small doses of antibiotics constantly

Utis are not harmless, they can be very dangerous if left untreated. I've been taking cranberry tablets every day to try to prevent them, so far I've just had one. Another trick I've been trying when pregnant- after you pee, lean back on the toilet - usually a bit more pee will come out. When you are pregnant it is more difficult to fully empty your bladder which is what causes the infection. Good luck!
