King's College Hospital EPU - has anyone had any experiences?

I'm hoping to get a walk-in appointment at King's EPU in Denmark Hill tomorrow morning as I've been experiencing light bleeding since Saturday evening.

I went to the walk-in EPU at St Thomas's this afternoon but was told there was a four-hour wait to see a nurse and that there were no more scans available today.

I'm just wondering how hard it is to get a scan at King's. If I turn up half an hour before the EPU opens, is it likely I'll get seen (and crucially, scanned) the same morning? If anyone has any insights I'd be very grateful.

Hey. Been there twice in recent weeks

They don't 'guarantee a scan' but I've got one both times I've gone. Waits depend on the number of doctors and other clinics running. Both times I've been there from 8/830-12/1 at least but I kind of didn't care aslong as they saw baby was okay.

Staff start from 9 but the registration actually opens at 8:30 and every time I've been there is a queue by 8am so I'd say get there as early as possible as this reduces your wait and increases chance of a scan (they have always offered me one).

They've always been lovely to me and I appreciate they're under lots of pressure so the wait wasn't a huge issue and you can get back to work etc in the afternoon.

Hope all goes well for you

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I should get there at 8!

My experience mirrors pp. I have had scans there in 3 pregnancies and the staff have always been lovely. The policy is to give each appointment the time it needs so though you might wait a while, once in, they don rush you.

Yes I would! I think the first time I got there at maybe half 8 and was something like number 18 in the queue (post weekend though so maybe more people) and the second I got there at about quarter past I think and was number 6.
I did see people arriving later who were triaged by nurses as the number to see doctors had been reached. Either way, I do think they'll do what ever is best for you. But the earlier the better! (Also the wait is always stressful so better for our heads to be seen quicker too!)

That's really helpful, thank you!
